MRAT has enriched my life beyond what I ever imagined.
But it is time to close this chapter so I can be more present for my loved ones and explore new paths.
I am proud, privileged and grateful for what this community has brought me over the past decade, particularly treasured friendships.
Some of you were here in the beginning and appreciate the work to establish our group and earn respect within and beyond the creative cohorts in the region.

MRAT has always been a safe and supportive place for people at all stages of their creative endeavours. And I believe the greatest strengths of the group have been inclusiveness and equality.
While the pandemic was a catalyst for reducing our presence to digital platforms, it has been heartening to observe many physical collaborations continue that had their foundation in the group.

My hope is that another similarly motivated person will continue to facilitate connections among local artists and others.

I will close both MRAT pages by the end of the month and encourage anybody wishing to start afresh to use the interim period to discuss any ideas while the pages are still up.

Thank you and Happy Trails!

Nadine Hartnett

No, 2023 won’t be the best year yet.
Nor will it be the worst.
You see, a year is a mosaic of absolutely everything.
Joy, fear, heartache, loss, beauty, pain, love.
Failure, learning, friendship, misery, exhilaration.
Each day, each moment even, is a tiny shard of glass in this beautiful, confusing creation.
2023 will be another mosaic to add to your wall of art.
A wall that shows the life, you are continuously gifted.
A wall that shows you are human.
A wall of survival.
I wish you many broken pieces of glass this year, my friends.
Because this is living.
And before you march on in to another year of ‘everything’, pause to look back, at the work you have created thus far.
It is quite something.
You are quite something.
Now onwards we go, my friends.
Onwards we go.

#2023

The past couple of years have been especially difficult for me. I acknowledge that it's also been a really hard few years for most people.

I like taking photos of doors; they speak of new beginnings, new chapters, the wonder of the unknown and occasionally you get rewarded with the thrill of opening your mind that little bit more to the world around you.
Now it's hard not to move forward without trepidation and shake the feeling that something is hanging over my head.

I'll be breathing a sigh of relief when 2023 arrives. All my best wishes for the New Year go out to those of you who are reading this. 🌹

Look what’s on its way to join our Art in the Vines Sculpture Exhibition!! We have such a wonderfully diverse array of sculptures this year but I have to admit a 3m x 4m Plover bird by the very talented Simon Norman is definitely new!!

Make sure to come and see it and the rest of the exhibition from this Saturday.

Christmas gifts come in all shapes and sizes. Chieko Hester has a range of framed origami artworks in different sizes. This small butterfly resting on a musical score would make an ideal gift ($35)

Flourish; to prosper, to thrive, to reach a height of development or to make bold and sweeping gestures. No word could better describe the work of Sharyn Frantz, Fran Pidgeon & Jenn Spencer-Stewart in their first group exhibition together which opened in the Main Gallery today.

From the feeling of needing connection and community, these Macedon Ranges artists came together to share friendship and support as they embraced being females in their fifties and explored how they could help each other Flourish.

Join us for their Opening Saturday at 2pm and help celebrate these fantastic local woman!

Introducing Fran... a talented artist with an established professional career as a designer and illustrator. Fran's work can be seen adorning the products of the Lake House, Daylesford (as well as the wonderful murals that once transformed the white walls of Blackbird Cakes). Her colourful and joyful works for this exhibition demonstrate her botanical observation skills and talent in yet another media - acrylic paint. Pictured is a work in progress for the Flourish Exhibition.

Fran's works will be on display at Flourish - the opening of the exhibtion is Saturday 10th December 2022 from 2-4pm - See you there!
