Labor Day in the Bahamas??? Why not!

Historically, this time of year presents some uncertainty as GTC enters it's "off season" and the threat of hurricanes remain present.

For those intrepid travelers who may choose to brave the uncertainty, we are offering an AMAZING deal!

Since we are in the "off season," Hidden Turtle Cottage will be prepared for hurricanes and will have the hurricane shutters up and in place. If you and your group are willing to brave this inconvenience, you will certainly be rewarded!

First, we will be offering a 25% discount off our normally low rates.

Second, there will be a 100% refund of deposits should a named storm be headed our way with no minimum window. As always, there are no cancellation fees or outstanding obligations.

We mentioned this a few days ago too - We wanted to make your stay a little more enjoyable so we got a fully automated generator to ensure that in the event of a main power loss you wont even notice.

Over the past couple of years we have been utilizing a manual start standby generator to power HTC when the power goes out on GTC.

The starting process for the old manual generator was not too complicated but if you were out and about exploring (we hope you are) when the power goes out, you could come back to a warm house or even worse, melted ice!

In the next week or so a brand new whole house CAT generator will be installed that also has an automatic transfer switch!

Simply put, power goes out, generator turns on by itself and ice cubes stay frozen.

Just one more way we are hoping to make your stay a little more enjoyable.

As we like to say - you are not staying at a vacation rental. You are staying at a friends house in the Bahamas.

The photo of this little guy was captured today by one of our guests as it found its way up to one of the stairs at the cottage.

Many of us are not too fond of snakes but we do take exception to this one. It’s a rare Abaco Boa.

Rest assured they are non venomous and only grow to a maximum of 31”. They are not aggressive and are a unique site to see for sure!

When you visit you may see something new…. We are trying our hand at growing pineapples!

Once a staple export crop in the 1800’s the pineapple has historically done well in the climate of the Abacos.

Hopefully in 16-18 months we will have 2 more!

It’s been quiet….

The end of August was met with sweat and preparation for things hopefully NOT to come.

Historically, the US Labor Day weekend has been a time when GTC in general would take some down time.

For us, it usually meant we would be deployed to support hurricane responses so we rolled into the “off season” a little early.

True to history, in the week prior to Labor Day and the weeks following, deployments to hurricanes came.

We are prayerful that this down time renews and refreshes those who are weary and we look forward to greeting you as our guests in late October.

As the kids say - No step on snek!

No need to worry about this little guy. He’s not a danger noodle by any means but don’t boop the snoot!

This is the Abaco boa, a small, non venomous, nocturnal snake sometimes found on GTC.

While many folks are not too fond of snakes, rest assured in all of our years this is only the second time we have seen one.

Coming by boat or renting a boat? No need to worry about renting dock space too.

GTC has several free public docks where you can tie up.

This particular dock happens to be on Coco Bay which is a quick 2 minute walk from the house. For size perspective, the boat in the picture is 22’.

When it gets really busy at the dock, more room can be made with a stern anchor.

When your primary mode of transportation is a golf cart, you have to be creative in the way that you move large items.

Recently we updated some lighting along the roofline. This necessitated a very large ladder.

Trying to get a 30 foot ladder from one end of the cay to the other is always a unique challenge but we are up to that challenge!
