Rake n Scrape is our bungalow's name, evoking the islands' unique musical sound. The beach house too is unique, with the feel of an old fisherman's bungalow right on the beach, yet having modern conveniences. Several restaurants, food stores, liquor stores, bank, churches and other amenities are within walking distance, but we suggest renting a “buggy” (golf cart) to explore other parts of the island which we can arrange for you. Spanish Wells, on St George's Cay, is a very safe, friendly island community of about 1,700 people and is the principal lobster fishing island in the Bahamas. It was settled in the 17th century by Eleutheran Adventurers seeking religious freedom who were shipwrecked nearby on the Devil's Backbone Reef. Many of the current inhabitants trace their roots back to the early settlers and the pride in their island is evident in the brightly painted homes and clean streets and gardens. If you are looking for a total escape to just relax and enjoy the sun and sea, this is it. Or, if you want to be more active rental boats are available or hire a guide who will customize an outing to swim with the pigs or turtles, go fishing, diving, or snorkel reefs and wrecks or explore nearby islands. There is lots to do. Our rental includes kayaks which you can use right off your beach. The restaurants are casual and good food and drink can be found.
