Desuup Phub Dorji, DD(40)20-10816, who was working at the DCCL as the Contract Worker under the Logistic Division tragically passed away earlier today.

Our thoughts and prayers with our deepest condolences are with his loved ones.

Desuup Phub Dorji was deployed at the Gasharibali Interim Checkpoint and was on ground performing a patrolling duty in the morning today.

After his duty for the day was done, he went for a swim with a few friends, where tragically he drowned in a freak accident. All emergency calls were made when the others realized what had happened, but it was too late.

Desuup Phub Dorji was a young energetic man, who had volunteered to serve the nation at a time of great need. In his dedication to the Tsa Wa Sum, he had committed himself to hard work to keep others safe. He is a hero.

His invaluable service to the nation at this time when we are battling COVID-19, will always be remembered.

May the prayers and gratitude of all the people of Bhutan, for whom he sacrificed so much, bear him swiftly to the pure land of Dewachen.

Happiness is the place to Travel

Tourism Council of Bhutan is happy to be one of the 21 Founding Signatories for the Future of Tourism Coalition which was recently launched on 16th June 2020.Most of their 13 pointers guiding principles resonate with our development philosophy and other national policies. The 4th principle talks about choosing “quality over quantity” which basically is our “High-value Low volume” tourism policy. The 7th principle about “Redefining economic success” is one key element of our development philosophy of “Gross National Happiness”. The 8th principle highlights climate change mitigation and we all know Bhutan is at the forefront of this as reflected by being the only carbon negative country in the world.

The Future of Tourism Coalition is an initiative of the Center for Responsible Travel (CREST), Destination Stewardship Center, Green Destinations, Sustainable Travel International, Tourism Cares, and the Travel Foundation, with the guidance of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). This Coalition aims to lead the way to a better tomorrow.

Update: The suspect of COVID-19 in Jomotsangkha, Samdrupjongkhar, tested negative on PCR. The businessman had earlier tested positive for antibody presence during the rapid test.

We are honoured to announce the birth of the second Royal Child of Their Majesties The King and Queen, a Prince, on the 19th of March 2020, corresponding with the 25th day of the 1st month of the Male Iron Rat year, in Lingkana Palace, Thimphu.

Her Majesty and the royal baby are in good health, and His Royal Highness The Gyalsey was delighted to meet his younger brother.

Their Majesties express their gratitude to the medical team, the Zhung Dratshang and to everyone for their well-wishes and prayers.

While this remains a very happy occasion for the Royal family and the nation and people of Bhutan, Their Majesties wish to remind all Bhutanese to be mindful, responsible and supportive to each other in the wake of the COVID-19 virus.

Their Majesties have everyone whose lives have been affected by this global pandemic in their thoughts and prayers.
