11.11.21: The wellspring of a Nation’s strength and courage, the exemplar of fearlessness and noblest purpose ~ His Majesty King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, is our inspiration and our hero.

On this day, we give thanks to our guardian deities, whose protection for Bhutan manifested in Drukgyal Zhipa, our King of Destiny. We pray for His Majesty’s eternal well-being.

“Throughout my reign I will never rule you as a King. I will protect you as a parent, care for you as a brother and serve you as a son. I shall give you everything and keep nothing. I shall live such a life as a good human being that you may find it worthy to serve as an example for your children.

I have no personal goals other than to fulfill your hopes and aspirations.

I shall always serve you, day and night, in the spirit of kindness, justice and equality.”

- His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, Coronation Address

🙏🙏🙏

Today our love, respect, and gratitude arises from our hearts as we join our hands before our Druk Gyalpo, for such a King has never been seen before, nor shall ever be seen again.

Only in epic legends we hear stories of such noble Kings, whose compassion for His people is boundless as the ocean. How lucky are the people of Bhutan to be born in this Kingdom, to witness the Reign of a Dharmaraja, to be cared for and loved unconditionally.

Yesterday on Zhabdrung Kuchoe, the Prime Minister Lynochen Dr Lotay conveyed the precious Commands of our Druk Gyalpo.

In summary, the Royal commands were:

1. For the coming year, people will still receive Kidu to make sure they can survive the pandemic, which it seems is not getting any better.

2. The Kidu money will not come from loans or borrowings. We will not put the future generations in debt to survive today. Neither the government shall stop the development activities to give salaries to those unemployed as our development activities are important.

3. This income support for people would be granted from His Majesty’s personal Sungchob Fund which was built by our precious Miwang YabSey as a security for the future whenever there will be need. This fund His Majesty was going to use to build Gyalsung which His Majesty announced on National Day in 2019, a training for one year for all Bhutanese youth of 18 years to defend the country and become capable future citizens. But now this fund is being given to the people who have lost their income. The Prime Minister conveyed His Majesty’s command as: “The wellbeing of the people is is the most important thing.” On National day 2020 too His Majesty said the same thing: that under no circumstance people should suffer and lose hope. If people can survive then it will be easy to rebuild everything again.

4. After giving everything, His Majesty our precious Druk Gyalpo has said to Lyonchen, that this is His Sacred Duty. His Majesty expressed that to do this for the people of Bhutan is a blessing.

Truly our ancestors have said Royal commands are Heavier than Mountains, More Precious than Gold.

We fold our hands in supplication and accept the Jinlap Kidu from the hands of a truly noble being. 🙏

Socio-economic impact of the Royal Kidu is huge!

It has rescued many people from going to sleep without food (poverty). Thousands of unemployed youths (mostly Dessups now) and displaced job seekers are provided a minimum monthly salary. Another group of thousand investors, businesspeople and general consumers were saved– from banks seizing their properties– by deferring loans and waiving off 50% of the interest rate. Thank you, Your Majesty! Palden Drukpa Gyalo! 🙏🙏🙏

Bhutan is home to the world's highest unclimbed mountain Gangkar Puensum 🏔 (7570m).

Mountains in Bhutan are considered sacred and are protected with a deep reverence for local cultural and spiritual values and most importantly for the future generation.

Since 2003, mountaineering above 6,000m has been prohibited in Bhutan.

However, many treks in Bhutan offer spectacular views of Gangkar Puensum and mountain journeys in some of the most fragile eco-systems in the Himalayas.

As we join the global community today in celebrating International Mountain Day, Bhutan looks forward to welcoming you all soon to the magic world of the mountains.

Congratulations to Pawo Choyning Dorji for taking Bhutan to the Oscars 2021 with his marvelous film: Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom.
Tshojo in Lunana, where most of the movie was shot is one of the few settlements that fall on 400 KMS plus trek - the Snowman Trek. This trek is being ranked as the world’s toughest trek by those who have been on it. And coincidentally, Tshojo will be also one of the 4 aid stations for the first ever international Snowman Race scheduled to flag off on 13 October 2021. The Snowman Race is being staged to draw global attention to the climate change agenda.

Amid nationwide lockdown medicines for minors top the list

By Chimi Wangmo

As medical suppliers in the capital dash around to cater medical supplies, it is medicines and food for the minors and infants that tops the list of medical supplies in Thimphu, according to sales figures from medical stores and pharmacies in the capital.

The Ministry of Health has assigned four medical suppliers- Capital Pharmacy, Dejung Pharmacy, Norling Pharmacy and Kuenphen Pharmacy to supply medicines during the nationwide lockdown in Thimphu.

On the first two days, the medical suppliers in the capital said that people were frantically ordering medicines but they saw a decline in the later days. The four medical suppliers are catering to an average of 40-50 households in a day.

After medicines and food for infants, people ordering medicine for hypertension and diabetes also topped the list of demands placed. Following it, ordersfor cold and flu medicines and painkillers, contraceptives, and disinfectants were some of the medicines on demand.

“The first day saw frantic calls for medicines as we believe people were panicky about the lockdown situation. Our store got overwhelming orders for baby medicines, diapers and food. We catered to almost 40-50 households the first day alone,” said Passang Tshering, Proprietor of Norling Pharmacy. He added that ‘he requested people complaining about cough to visit the flu clinic’ so that the strain on them was minimized.

“Some of the people didn’t know what to order, they were clueless and asked for our advice to buy medical supplies. We are taking orders to an average 35-40 households daily. People are mostly buying baby food and medicine and they were followed by hypertension and diabetes medicines and also contraceptives,” said Ram Prasad Chettri, Proprietor and Competent Person of Capital Pharmacy.

Meanwhile, medical suppliers were also frustrated because people would often decline their calls when they reach far destinations like Serbithang and Debsi in Thimphu.

“It takes time for our vehicle to go around and
this makes the delivery to certain places late but people refuse to understand our side of the story. When we finally reach far corners of the city like Serbithang and Debsi, people decline our calls or refuse to take our call,” said Jharna, proprietor of Kuenphen Pharmacy. She also added that their store was getting calls from the maternity ward for baby diapers.

“We have run out of stock for baby food. Initially, we had the supplies but after overwhelming calls for baby food and medicine, we have run out of supplies. However, we are still supplying other medicines,” Yeshey Wangmo, the proprietor of Dejung Pharmacy said.
