50 years Throwback post
This image portrays the ruins of Drugyal Dzong, a once-potent fortress guarding over the Paro valley. Erected in 1649 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, Drugyal Dzong served as a stronghold against external threats, its imposing walls bearing witness to centuries of tumultuous events in Bhutanese history.
Throughout its existence, Drugyal Dzong played a multifaceted role, serving not only as a military stronghold but also as a center for governance, trade, and religious activities. However, the passage of time, coupled with the challenges of natural erosion and sporadic conflicts, gradually led to the decline of Drugyal Dzong.
Unfortunately, Drugyal Dzong fell into ruin over time, succumbing to the ravages of age and neglect. However, in recent years, efforts have been made to restore and preserve this historic site. Through meticulous restoration work, supported by government initiatives and community efforts, Drugyal Dzong has been revitalized, reclaiming its place as a cultural landmark and testament to Bhutan's heritage.
