Happy ! Today we celebrate the world’s largest living flightless bird!
Did you know an ostrich’s eye is the largest eye of any land animal at almost 2 inches across and the ostrich egg is the largest egg in the world.

The ostrich is listed as least concern on the IUCN Red List, meaning it’s not endangered or considered close to becoming endangered in the near future. However, the IUCN notes that the ostrich’s population trend is decreasing, and they face a number of threats such as hunting, habitat loss, and natural predators.

What a special experience it has been watching this little girl grow up and turn into a beautiful leopard like her mother.

Ellies in the Majale this evening after all the rain. Thank you to Linda Payne who is staying at Rock Camp this weekend for the clip.

Of course the cable car didn't fair too well either.....and the boat wasn't strong enough to cross the torrent - so Platjan and Martins Drift for many travelers...a very long journey around back to Pontdrift!

More water coming down the Majale River - huge logs and trees being swept downstream....

And as we hit the plains we realized that all the rivers were in full flood. An amazing experience to see so much water in the dry river beds we all know so well!

Rock Camp flood

Waking up on the 30 December 2016 at Rock Camp. Indeed not a common site to have water gushing past the front of the rooms especially when the overnight rain wasn't that heavy. Clearly the catchment area got the bulk of it....
