LELEME UPDATE: The Okavango Delta new floodwaters along the Boro River have reached Tjaaha, which is the final biggest island before the Buffalo Fence. Today at 12noon Leleme was 10km away (as the fish swim) from the DRC gate.

📣 LELEME UPDATE:

The waters along the Boro River are currently flowing past Diadura Island and slowly approaching Thoka Tsebe and Tjaaha Islands. As of this morning, they are about 12km (as the fish swims) from the DRC Buffalo fence gate. While the floodwaters have slowed significantly, their speed is expected to slightly increase soon when the waters that diverted to Tootoro Channel rejoin the Boro River at Tshipi ya Water Affairs.

WELCOME TO GABS HALF MARATHON!

We are thrilled to have you join us for this exciting event. Here's everything you need to know to make your race experience as smooth and enjoyable as possible:

🗓️10 March 2024
⏱️ 🏃🏿‍♂️21.1 KM - 0530hrs
🏃🏿‍♂️10 KM – 0545hrs
🏃🏿‍♂️5KM – 0600hrs
📍 The race will start and finish at Airport Junction Pylon Area (Behind KFC). Please refer to the race map for details
Kindly arrive at least 30 minutes before the start time to allow for parking and warm-up.

🎽Race pack collection: 9 March 2024 from 090hrs to 1500hrs at Airport Junction Pylon Area (Behind KFC). You will need to present a valid ID to receive your race number (bib), t-shirt and timing chip.

Parking: Parking will be available at the mall. Please ensure that your valuables are locked away for safety.

RACE RULES

• All participants must wear their assigned bib and timing chip throughout the race.
• Headphones are allowed but please remain aware of your surroundings and follow instructions from race officials and marshals.
• All participants must run on the left side of the road.
• We do not have road closure and as such you must be attentive at all times especially at intersections. There will be a race official, race marshal and police officer stationed at every intersection. For additional safety measure also ensure that you check if there are any cars approaching from the front and behind you at every junction.
• For 10Km, at the KBL U-turn, only cross the road to turn back at the traffic lights as there will be traffic control. Crossing the road to the right at an undesignated area without the guidance of a Marshal puts you at a risk of an accident.
• The marathon route will be clearly marked with cones and Marshals to guide you. Please follow the designated route at all times. Distance markers will also be placed throughout the route at an interval of about 1km.
• Do not cut corners (and circles for 21.1K) to avoid recording a shorter distance. The course was measured from the left side of the road.
• There will be a higher concentration of cones along Nelson Mandela from Bull & Bush turn to KBL to secure the outer lane as the road shoulder is very narrow. Nonetheless, please stay as close as possible to the left of the road. Mobile marshals on bicycles will also be there to guide and control the traffic.
• Waterpoints will be located approximately every 3km along the route.
• Toilets are available at the start/finish area on the route along the Western bypass and at KBL turn.
• Please be courteous to fellow runners and follow the instructions of race officials and volunteers.
• Avoid littering carry your empty water and gel sachets to dispose at the next waterpoint.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
• Please be mindful of your health and well-being during the race. If you experience any discomfort or medical issues, seek assistance from race officials or medical personnel immediately.
• In case of emergency, dial EmergencyAssist on 991 or notify the nearest race official. Provide your location using the last distance marker you have seen or any landmark around you. This will assist the response team to plan the shortest route to the point of emergency.
• Stay hydrated and dress appropriately for the weather conditions. A hat/cap is highly advised given the prevailing heat wave.

POST RACE
• After crossing the finish line, collect your finisher's medal and enjoy our post race recovery and refreshments.
• Results will be available online within 24 hours of the race.
• Join us for the price giving after the race.
