Looking for the majestic moose is an adventure of its own. We rise with the sun and paddle into quite bays. Spotting one from a distance is a rush. Being able to watch this peaceful yet powerful animal up close is a gift that never gets old.

There is no substitute for immersing yourself in nature.
There is no supplement for first hand experience.
There is no shortcut to the growth achieved through effort.
There is no serenity without the support of a community.

This past weekend we guided and growing community into the interior of Algonquin. They had a vision of levelling up their Hero’s Journey with the power of the remote wilderness exploration and we had been building out a Men’s Wolf Pack Experience so the timing was perfect. Synergy was evident in our vision from the word go and the whole trip came together with ease and excitement.

Men travelled great distances from across North America to be part of this expedition.
Facing ourselves head on, navigating as a unit, and bonding with other growth minded Brothers all contributed to creating a transformative experience. What took place over the four days I have an urge to call magic, but it was as real as it gets.

We can talk about the meals shared, campfire conversations, hot saunas, cold dips, fire wood collection, portaging, big skies, war cry’s, no technology, real connections, the sounds of nature, slowing down, being present, pushing hard, digging deep … major breakthroughs and more but frankly the essence of experiences like these cannot be explained through words. They must be experienced.

It was an honour to guide and grow along side each and everyone one of you powerful Men. I am glad we all found what we needed out there, shedding the rest.
Nature has her way of giving us direction and lightening our load. Take it home and run with it.

ALGONQUIN “FOUNDATIONS” FISHING EXPERIENCE

On May 2nd-5th and will be joining forces to offer a 4 day / 3 night guided fishing expedition in Northwest Algonquin Park!

This trip is geared for all levels especially those wishing to learn the ins and outs of fishing in Algonquin Park through the seasons. Fishing labs, gear overviews, and cooking and cleaning trout will be explored!

AN ALL INCLUSIVE EXPERIENCE : wholesome meals, tailored fishing gear, and premium camping equipment will be provided. A packing list will sent out upon booking. “Pack your weekend getaway bag and we’ll take care of the rest.”

Trip Overview:

Early Spring in Algonquin Park can offer some fantastic fishing action. Join us on an early season canoe/fishing expedition as we travel to some of Algonquin Park’s early season productive lakes in search of Lake Trout and Brook Trout that travel in the shallows in search of food before settling down in the cold depths as the top water loses its chill with warmer days. Pushing off from Kawawaymog Lake this trip we will travel down the peaceful and meandering Amable Du Fond River, over a couple short portages, as we make our way to the impressive North Tea Lake. From here we will make camp and spend the next couple days navigating both local fishing holes and exploring new frontiers with regard to other interior lakes and species!⁣

This trip will also focus on relaxation and quality time. Slow down, kick back, and take it all in.

Another epic adventure in the books with the youth from Southwood Secondary. That’s now 11 years of guiding the students from this school, helping them get outside their comfort zones and thrive.

Witnessing what they get up to when they are “board” and don’t have their normal distractions is an absolute treat. Staring at the clouds, building things with what nature provides, digging holes and exploring the wild forest. Just being kids.

Also having them step up and do what needs to be done to help the team. Setting up camp, collecting firewood, cooking, cleaning and not only carrying their own weight but a little extra to support the group. Being adults.

If you are someone who worries about the next generation, just take/ send them on a canoe trip.

They are awesome!

It was our friends who encouraged us, the 'Backcountry Brothers', to set off on our own. We decided to stop guiding part-time for other companies and take a leap of faith, starting our own family business and making Algonquin our full-time home.

We knew that by going out on our own, we could do things our way – at our own pace, guided by our values: integrity, adventure, connection, and community. Our goal was to take people to places they've never been before, to be the locals who give others that incredible feeling.

Our love for this area runs deep, tracing back to our early years spent on our parents' property on Kawawaymog Lake. We spent countless hours exploring, listening, and uncovering the hidden beauty that Algonquin holds. Each discovery only fueled our hunger for more. We truly believe that Algonquin has enough space to satisfy the adventurous hearts of many, and that our life's purpose is to turn people into campers through authentic Canadian adventures.

What a light show this past weekend!!

Even with knowing the science that causes these wild visuals, you still can’t help but let your imagination go wild. Sometimes I wish we had less answers to leave more room for wonder.

It was amazing to see all the people in Ontario enjoying the Auroras. Being 3 hours behind it felt like I was looking into the future.

So I packed some snacks and warm clothes and went for a late night drive. I should probably do that more often in my time up here in the north.
