Meteora is a great place to experience , a spectacular landscape and byzantine monasteries perched on top of steep rocks that house priceless artifacts and wall paintings
Today only six monasteries are active with a small number of monks or nuns who reside on Meteora. In 1988, the Meteora monasteries have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List
This was a very long day trip from Athens but it has been on my list for a long time and felt it was worth it. Departure at 8 am from near the train station returning at 1030 pm. Cost was 80 euros/120 cad
Our guide Maria was amazing. Just enough information to retain, not overwhelming
Just wow! Can’t believe my holiday coincided with an evening here in Athens.
It was built in AD 161 by Herodes Atticus in memory of his Roman wife, Aspasia Annia Regilla. It was originally a steep-sloped theatre with a three-story stone front wall and a wooden roof made of expensive cedar of Lebanon timber. It was used as a venue for music concerts with a capacity of 5,000
With 35 rows, the marble auditorium extends slightly beyond a semi-circle with a diameter of 80 metres and today seats 4680 people.
While travelling on the ferries from one island to another I am amazed at the number of different ferry companies and prices vs slow and fast ferries. And the Captains are pretty good and backing in so cars and people can get on and off, unlike our BC ferries having openings at each end. Can’t image backing into the ferry as sometimes is the case as well as different destinations on the same ferry.
This is the port of Syros island
What Greek island am I on now? The island of Milos in the Cyclades region.
The rocky landscape of the sea caves and enormous cliffs contrasting with the transparent blue-green waters that invite you to dive in make Kleftiko the most popular and most visited place on the island.
Our wonderful host George took care of getting on a boat trip for 40 euros/60 CAD from 10 - 2 and instead of renting a vehicle we got a transfer of 22 euros each return. Much better prices with the transfers than at the port 120-200 euros at the port. Mind you we did not have the big fancy catamarans but the view was just the same
So some of you may have guessed it. Visiting Santorini for a few days again. My travelling companion has not been here before. I was here last time during covid in 2021. 3 cruise ships are now all leaving, should be a little quieter. Choose this small little place as it is hard to find places with twin beds, looking for my small Greek group. 4 twin rooms on the pool level. Breakfast included. And on the foot path to Oia, about a 3 hour hike
I have wanted to visit the Trastevere neighbourhood of Rome. So today is Sunday and a visit to Basilica Santa Maria was in the same area.
Arrived safely in Roma. Exploring during the evening and was invited in to this random church that had a random concert going on, so I stayed for awhile to listen and rest my weary feet.
Was out for a stroll not far from my home for the next 2 nights in southern Italy in the city of Bari. I enjoy exploring the centre of older cities where people have lived in for hundreds of years. “Little Messi” is enjoying his football. Looking forward to finding the street where the ladies make the local pasta called orecchiette outside of their homes.
I finally found my sandy beach in the Ionian Sea at the heal of the boot in Italy.
Located in the far south of Puglia, Marina di Pescoluse is one of the premier beach destinations. Celebrated as the 'Maldives of Puglia,' the fine sands and waters are positively amazing. 26 degrees
