The Lavers House, located on Central Street in Chester, NS, was constructed in the 1860s and has remained intact with three elevations having either minor or no alterations since the home was constructed. The Municipal Heritage Designation applies to the residence and surrounding property.

At the top of the stairs you will see this bedroom first, It has a queen sized bed.

This room has a single bed. We haven't done very much to spruce the room up. The floor has been well used, lets just call it rustic, and we haven't painted the walls and ceiling. It's a cute room though and a project for next winter.

The bedroom at the end of the hall is over the kitchen. The beds are a little small but an average adult will sleep comfortably here.
Please ignore the filing cabinet. We will take it out of the house before you arrive.

The upstairs bath is small, very small. Although it is small, it is fully 37% larger than the original. Just think, in 1860 there may not have been a bathroom at all. We opted not to turn one of the bedrooms into a larger, more modern bath, and now we have lots of beds to sleep lots of grandchildren. The modest bath is also in keeping with the austerity of the period.

In the kitchen some modern conveniences have trumped the 1860 lifestyle.

There is a brief hallway between the dining room and the kitchen. The downstairs bathroom is off to the right of the hallway and there is a laundry room on the left.

The dining room table seats six comfortably, eight in a pinch. These are heirlooms which have been in the family for several generations.

This is one end of our living room. It is not likely that you will need to use the wood stove but it keeps us comfy during the cold winter days.

This is the front hall with stairs leading to the bedrooms. We have been renovating this house for several years and haven't finished yet. Look at the stairs for example. More scraping and painting is required here.
