Zoo Camp at Hands on Exotics

Zoo Camp at Hands on Exotics is a summer camp dedicated to creating an immersive learning environment that is enriching for both campers and zoo residents!

During this day camp, campers will learn all about animals at the zoo such as kangaroos, lemurs, birds of prey, snakes, and many more. All attendees will have the opportunity to interact closely and safely with a variety of zoo animals from feathered friends, to furries, to creepy crawlies. Every day will host a new set of engaging, educational activities such as zookeeping, animal enrichment, env

ironmentalism and conservation, and camp activities like arts & crafts and sports. Children and teens will step into the role of a zookeeper and provided they show an aptitude and interest, help conduct outreach presentations of their own or members of the community. Our summer camp welcomes campers ages 6 – 16 and pride ourselves on providing a safe, inclusive environment. Each and everyone of our staff is trained to build a community that embraces and celebrates differences. We are wheelchair accessible. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding our all inclusive policy. Camp will be near by our zoo location. Though we are not open to the general public, campers will get a behind the scenes look at how a zoo works. Our camp area will be a separate building from the zoo and will be where we conduct programming such as arts & crafts and camp games. During day trips we will walk from camp to the zoo. Campers will get to go into the zoo to learn how to be a zookeeper while they care for and interact with our animals. We hope that all participants will leave camp feeling empowered to make a difference for the planet and in their communities. Register for camp today!

Brachypelma smithi otherwise known as a Mexican redknee tarantula. Tarantulas are incredibly misunderstood. In fact no one has ever died from a tarantula bite!

This adorable rodent is the softest animal in the world; the chinchilla. Their fur is so dense that they do not bathe in water but instead roll in sand to remove debris from their coat. Chinchilla fur has been harvested to the point of endangerment which might be surprising due to their prevalence in the pet trade

Slippery Pete, one of our blue tongued skinks. They are a medium sized lizard from Australia. They show their tongues to predators to warn them that they are poisonous, however they're full of it. They are not at all poisonous

Vega is just one of many animals that Hands on Exotics has rescued. She is a blue and gold macaw and although she's beautiful and smart she is not an easy pet. They require several hours of work a day and can live over 100 years! Campers at Hands on Zoo Camp will get the opportunity to care for and learn about many animals including Vega
