Fundy National Park boasts pristine and refreshing rivers. These waterways are essential for both humans and wildlife. Here’s how Park scientists ensure their well-being:

1️⃣Monitoring River Health:
As part of our Ecological Integrity Monitoring program, they diligently track river health by collecting data on:

💧Water Quality and Temperature: Monitoring cool temperatures and clean water, which are crucial for species like salmon and trout.

🐞Aquatic Bugs: These benthic invertebrates serve as valuable indicators. For example, some of them (like the mayfly, stonefly and caddisfly) are very sensitive to pollution - having them around is a good indicator for the health of the rivers.

2️⃣Stream Flow Assessment:
By utilizing data from Environment Canada, they measure stream flow in the Point Wolfe River. This information helps assess long-term and short-term trends. It alerts us to events like extended low water levels that could impact native species. 📊

3️⃣Endangered Atlantic Salmon:
Fundy’s rivers harbour the endangered Atlantic salmon. Each fall, adult salmon return from the ocean to their birthplace in these rivers. Their journey brings marine nutrients, enriching the freshwater ecosystem. Park scientists monitor the number of returning adult salmon every year.🐟

Closed out the 2023 fishing season with the best group of die hard fisherman (and fisherlady) a guy could ask for. Cold, Snow, Rolling fish that won't eat, nothing stops this crew from being on the water. 2023 was a great season and I'm already counting down the days to April 1st....

One of my customers ordered 2 dozen soft hackles for a fishing trip to Maine with 2 friends to close out the trout season. I hooked the friends up with a freebie bag too... I hope they bring them some luck!

I'm very proud of this woman. She tried fly fishing with me 3 or 4 years ago because it's my passion in life, the first few times didn't go so well but she kept at it and here we are 4 years later fishing together on a regular basis and she absolutely loves it. Love you , thanks for going on all my crazy adventures. Next year I step out of my comfort zone and on to the beach volleyball courts.

Quick family vacation to PEI and Cape Breton over the weekend. 4 days of camping and adventures with the kids. They had a blast and it was nice to see them enjoying the outdoors.

New product available in my Etsy store tonight.... Striped Bass leaders, 30lb Fluorocarbon butt section with perfection loop, barrel swivel, 20lb Fluorocarbon front section to a micro surf clip. This leader is tough and durable, the swivel and surf clip combo allow for full articulation of large saltwater flies and it makes fly changes a snap! Each one is hand made by me. I had the pleasure of guiding a father and his 2 sons from Ontario last week, it was the first time fly fishing for all of them. They had an absolute blast and asked to go to basspro after and buy fly rods! For me it's truly an honor to guide these young fellas and teach them how to fly fish and also care for the resource. They are the future of the sport and also the future of conservation. They will fight to keep the wild places wild.

I've been waiting a very long time to take this girl for her first fly fishing adventure. She's finally old enough and big enough to wade the river with me so today was the day and I couldn't be more proud of her. She caught a lot of trout for her first time wirh a fly rod. I hope we have many more adventures on the river together Emilia...

When a new fly customer sends you pics from their first time out with the new flies you tied and tells you he netted 6 fish in less than 30 mins... That's what it's all about for me! The striped bass really do love these sand eels 🐟🐟

If you have never chased brook trout on a 7' 3 weight glass rod you don't know what you're missing! And the beauty of these fish never gets old. Pound for pound my favorite fish on the planet to chase on dry flies.
