𝙎𝒘𝙤𝒐𝙥𝒊𝙣𝒈 𝑮𝙪𝒍𝙡𝒔

One more photo of North Light. I know, I know. This scene resembles a certain Alfred Hitchcock horror movie. Block Island hosts the largest Gull colony in all of Rhode Island. We just happen to be there during nesting season when the gulls swoop and squawk to protect their young from predators.

This is not a single photo but rather a composite of several photos I took over a few minutes around sunset. But the volume of gulls is not an exaggeration — there were hundreds flying overhead, at times buzzing my head as a warning to stay away from their nests.

I took the photo from a walking path below North Light as the sun set behind the lighthouse. Even though Block Island is full of beach-seeking tourists at this time of year, I was all alone on Sandy Point at sunset that evening…well except for the huge colony of gulls loudly shrieking their alarm calls.
