The sun has set on a other great season. Sadly the season has been cut short by a few weeks but the days on the ice wont be forgotten. The 2022/23 winter was a busy one only being on the ice 3 days a week but sharing those days with guests from around the world makes every day great. Fish were cooperative, weather was good and the ice is still thick so spring isn’t around the corner yet. Time to get on the fly tying vice and prepare for open water. Thank you to everyone who joined me on the ice this winter and hope to see more of you next hardwater season.

The ice is almost ready for us! Safety is number one when it comes to ice fishing and introducing people to the world of ice fishing so we are being patient. Some spots on the local holes have enough ice to fish but other areas have just over 2” of ice making it unsafe. I did find a secluded bay with over 6” of ice so we setup in the shallows and got after some fish for dinner. Bookings are open on the website and days are being added when available. The games begin in 2 weeks!

Its cold, the snow has arrived and we watch the lakes for the hardwater. Safety is always number one when it comes to ice fishing so be patient when you see a lake covered in ice. If you don’t know how to test the thickness dont go on the ice. The season of ice fishing is upon us and we will be operating as soon as we can. Gilly and I are very excited.

Something other than a trout. Chasing carp is a challenge, they are smart and very powerful fish. You have to sneak in close in super shallow water and get a fly right on their nose, they tail in the mud like bones, take dry flies like trout, chase bait fish patterns like bass and Run, jump and fight like a tarpon. Theres a lot to love. My first mirror carp and a couple beautiful commons made for a great day fly fishing the flats of BC.

Winter has been undecided lately with temps well above zero in Sun Peaks and double digits on my local waters. The ice that was forming has melted away but there is hope in the forecast. Low negative temps on the way, the ice is just around the corner and the hardwater season will begin. Patience will be important as safety is number one on the ice. Updates will be posted as soon as I get out. Im super excited and have a few new additions that Im stoked to share with my guests.

Where there is water I will fish. Brother H is making the move from the most urban environment in Canada to almost the opposite of that now a couple ferries from a stop light. Caught and released a couple rock fish from shore, a couple hefty carp on the fly. Get outside, go for a walk, get some fresh air, nature is still there.

After an amazing winter on the hardwater, the season has come to an end. A wild day with blue skies, white out conditions, gale force winds and lots of guests it seems like a good place to end it. I took a few minutes before loading the truck to take a good look at the beautiful place I get to call my home and my office, sitting down and not worrying about anything is what I needed after 12 hours on the ice. Had a quick chat with the friendly bald eagles, got one last good look and walked off the ice. Conditions are getting sketchy and safety is number one. Time for a few more days skiing and getting the boat out of storage. Fly fishing guided trips and casting lessons will commence as soon as the lakes open up. Thank you to all the guests who joined me on the ice this winter, you are the reason I love going to work everyday.

Well, a 30 hour fishing mission was an adventure. 7am until 1pm the next day, eating and sleeping on the ice with lows to -21c. The results, one burbot too small to keep, yup, 30 hours of lines in the water, chasing fish around the depths, dragging two sleds of gear and one fish. Kokanee were hard to find, Lakers were there but not interested and I missed a couple good bites on the burbot bite. Lots of time to think about life and plan the next trip to do it all over again. Ill be back, until then ill be putting some new gear to use on my guided trips, thanks to Mark at if youre on the fishing highway this shop is a must stop location or find it online for some great outdoor gear.

Kokanee is one of several species which anglers can target during BC's ice fishing season. In recent years, Go Fish BC has increased its kokanee production and expanded this popular fishery in this province. Here is a day limit of fish caught by using a variety of Gibbs Delta Tackle ice terminal tackle. Check out the kokanee ice fishing episode I did with Elevated Fishing Adventures back in January for more information!

Out scouting for the thick stuff yesterday saw the first signs of hard water season. A small hike in lake, full of wild fish is usually fun to get things started but wont be long before the bigger lakes freeze up.

Tbt to the toothy critters I used to chase. Although Im currently a trout fishing guide I wouldnt classify myself as a “trout guy”. Im not bashin trooots, I like to catch all kinds of fish but the big toothy ones really get me going. A nice shark off the beach from florida, a Musky and Gar pike from Georgian bay. #

Fly fishing is incredible but its not easy. There are millions moving parts, a million factors that change the game every time you go out. Focusing on one simple element and removing as many of the unknowns and complications makes it simple for new anglers to try it for themselves. Here in Sun Peaks we can start in a soccer field and learn to cast, no boat to fall out of, no hooks to smack you in the head. Spending an hour learning the mechanics of a basic cast make the first step an inviting one and the first few lessons of the summer have been a blast for me and I cant wait for more. After a lesson we can move to the boat and let fish complicate things for the rest of your life. #

Fly fishing lessons.
Its fly fishing season so come see what its all about! Many of you have joined me on the ice to fish for rainbow trout but now join me on the boat and try something new this summer. The interior of BC, our home, is a world renowned destination for fly fishing so why not give it a try.

I will be running learn to fly fishing clinics to ensure you learn the basics before heading out on the water with me, starting here at the soccer field in the village. We will learn to cast a fly rod, no distractions, no hooks, no lake to fall in. After we spend an hour of hands on private instruction we can move to the boat, a fully customized 17’ boat for fishing the interior lakes. With hundreds of lakes we can take our pick but some of the closest lakes are the best around. We can spend a few hours or a sunrise to sunset on the water, thats up to you, bring food and drinks and Ill bring everything else.

One hour Fly casting lessons: Soccer field, groups of 1-5 people. $20 per person. Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

Guided fly fishing: 2 people max, Friday Saturday,Sunday, half day or full day, price varies. All gear provided.

Fishing license required. Must provide your own transportation to/from the lake.

If you’re interested you can send me a message or an email, stop me in the village and ask some questions, or check out my website. Elevatedfishing.ca

I hope to continue sharing what I love with my community and make a summer of local travels even better.

Spring, summer and fall fishing in the interior of BC provides some amazing amazing action on the fly rods. Currently working on a plan for summer guiding to make sure everyone is safe, happy and able experience some amazing fishing right at your doorstep. With over 100 local lakes, Kamloops is the home of Stillwater fishing. From learning to cast to catching some huge healthy fish we can do it all in a day. Once things are safe I’ll post on here and the website. There is lots of season left and until the ice returns I’ll be out here.

Fish p**n?!? Stopped by a local creek to check on the local spawners and they were there in force. Over 200 fish in a 100yd section of clean flowing gravel beds. This is why we have spring fishing closures of creeks and rivers in BC so these wild beauties can do their thing. With snow still melting in the alpine and lots of rain and high water levels I wanted to make sure the creek and gravel beds were still flowing as washouts have effected them in the past, I kept my distance hiding in the bushes and watched nature happen. #
