It’s been 14 months since travel restrictions shut down the Canadian Travel Industry. This has been an excruciating time for so many. When three of my colleagues, Judith D Coates, Nancy Wilson and Brenda Slater founded the Association of Canadian Independent Travel Advisors (ACITA) shortly after the pandemic began, it was to give a voice to the 12,000 independent travel advisors whose small businesses were decimated by the travel restrictions imposed by the government. To date, we have sent hundreds of letters to Members of Parliament, and have met via zoom with well over 200 MPs and Senators. We have been advocating for our small businesses, and for our entire travel industry. And we are not done yet. While Ottawa is telling Canadians to get ready for a great summer, we know our businesses and the industry we love will not even begin to recover until travel restrictions are eased.
