**ADDENDUM**
EN - An important clarification must be made to this update: even if the QR code consultation page sometimes gave the impression that unregistered applicants had been certified, **the system did not issue any false certificates**. This nuance is important because it means that all certificates in circulation are still valid. 🙂

English version below

Voici quelques rappels importants :
1) pour ĂȘtre officiellement inscrit Ă  ID1N, il faut avoir reçu un courriel confirmant l’approbation de son inscription avec, en piĂšce jointe, le certificat ID1N;

==========

Kwe, good day, the team behind the ID1N official mark of the First Nations would like to shed some light on an unfortunate situation that was brought to their attention. It became apparent in recent days that some individuals wrongly believed they had received a valid ID1N certificate allowing them to use the Bear logo. A closer look at the ID1N management system revealed that, in some rare cases, a confirmation web page was issued without the request having been approved. Fixes have already been made to the system and further work is underway to permanently resolve the situation.

Here are some important reminders:
1) to be officially registered with ID1N, you must have received an email confirming approval of your registration with, as an attachment, the ID1N certificate;
2) the process of evaluating and approving registrations is carried out rigorously on the basis of clearly defined criteria: A) that the entrepreneur can prove their status (via the card issued by the federal government or a letter from one of the 43 member communities of the AFNQL) and B) that the business has a majority First Nation governance.

We would like to thank everyone who is committed to the fight against cultural appropriation. It is through the authentication of our products and services on a large scale that we will succeed in our efforts, the Bear logo being the best tool to highlight, promote and protect our traditional activities.

IT'S PREMIERE NIGHT!!!

Episode 1 of Lands Enchanted is airing on APTN tonight at 9:30 PM EST (please check your local listings for accurate times). In this episode we travel to Mi’gmaq territory, to the home of the Puglutmu’j – the little people – on Mount St. Joseph where their powerful presence is felt atop this iconic mountaintop and in the secret caves beneath it.

Below is a picture of series creator, Ernest Webb, in Gesgapegiag, a stone's throw from Mont St. Joseph. This is where it all began...

Again, a very special shout out to Heather Condo for collaborating with us for episode 1, The Puglutmu’j! And a huge thank you to everyone who shared their stories and knowledge with us for this episode.

Mi'kmaw History Month Day 23.

Did you know, the English word toboggan comes from the Mi’kmaw word tepaqn, meaning the object used to load and haul belongings. In the winter months, Mi’kmaw people use tepaqnn to transport personal belongings, food, and furs with ease in the deep snow and across the ice.

Mi'kmaw History Month Day 20.

Did you know, Mi’kma’ki is the traditional territory of Mi’kmaq and includes seven districts which are found in what is now known as Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Quebec (GaspĂ© Peninsula), parts of New Brunswick , parts of Newfoundland and parts of Maine, US .

For thousands of years, Mi’kmaq traveled throughout Mi’kma’ki, and to other territories, carrying with them stories and teachings. Moving throughout the land for trade and resources, as well as establishing relationships with neighbouring nations.

Present day mapping and borders didn’t exist, there were natural boundaries in the landscape such as rivers, mountains, or watersheds that marked the territory they were in or traveled across.

Mi’kmaw History Month Day 05

Did you know the first recording of Mi’kmaq playing a stick and puck game, on ice, with bone made skates was in 1749. With a similar game played on the field during warmer months.

This game was played by the Mi'kmaq before the first settler recording in 1749.

Not only were Mi’kmaq good at the sport, they became one of the main suppliers of hockey sticks across North America.

Mic Mac hockey sticks were in high demand for their craftsmanship of a solid, light weight stick often made of golden birch.

Gesgapegiag Tourism

Results from community engagement and consultation sessions determined that the Micmacs of Gesgapegiag Band would respond to the needs and interests of the community by focusing on Tourism as one of three identified priorities. The Aboriginal cultural tourism sector is growing, which is why it is a priority within Gesgapegiag’s Strategic Plan for Economic Development. This led to the creation of an official Tourism Initiative pursued by Gesgapegiag’s Economic Development Department.
