***QUEBEC TO FREEZE THE TEMPORARY FOREIGN WORKER PROGRAM FOR 6 MONTHS IN THE MONTREAL AREA***

More information will be officially released tomorrow by the Quebec PM. For the moment, what we know is that the measure concerns the low-wage stream, i.e. salaries below $27 an hour. There will be certain exceptions for workers in construction, agriculture, food processing, education and social services. Applications submitted in all the other sectors will not be taken into consideration for 6 months.

Canada Day is a day to celebrate achievements and share what makes us proud. We are very proud of Jhannet, who arrived in Canada a few weeks ago.

Jhannet received an employment offer in the hospitality industry and this opportunity took her from Macao the scenic Revelstoke, in the province of British Columbia. A great chance to get out, enjoy the great outdoors and capture snowy mountains in the month of June.

Welcome to Canada, Jhannet! All the best for your new job, and well done!

Welcome to the Eh Team, Ronseth!

Canada Day is an opportunity for Canadians from all communities to come together and celebrate their success in their new country. Ronseth accomplished a major step in his Canadian journey earlier last month as he took the Oath of Citizenship and became a Canadian Citizen. His sister was there to cheer him on.

Holding multiple diplomas from the Philippines and an having an impressive work experience in the Middle East, Ronseth was selected by the province of Quebec and became a Canadian Permanent Resident. After more hard work and determination, he successfully became a Quebec Registered Nurse.

Today it's Ronseth's first Canada Day as a Canadian citizen so let's wish him good luck with his new status and many more achievements to come! That journey was intense, eh?

Meet Kareem Isid, one of our most recently approved Canadian Permanent Residents! He landed in Ottawa a few weeks ago to join his wife Ellen Joy and to be here for the birth of their first child.
Due to intricate political decisions, spousal sponsorships take longer nowadays and applicants face roadblocks in the process. But for Ellen and Isid, the only bump was the baby bump... Being an Ontario sponsorship, the file took just a few months to be processed and approved.
Congratulations and all the best to you as you embark together on this amazing journey of parenthood and new life in Canada!

"We finally received our PR cards. The long wait is over, no more worries" wrote Elizabeth a while ago. She and her husband Roderick became permanent residents through a limited-time PR pathway that opened during the pandemic. Despite the small program cap and the short window of opportunity, they took this chance, gathered their documents quickly and were able to submit their application before the cap was reached.

Here they are posing in front of the CN Tower in Toronto. Well done and good luck with your new projects in Canada!

Happy Valentine's Day, Elizabeth and Roderick!

New French skill requirement for Quebec temporary workers:

The government of Quebec announced today the intention to require a certain level of French knowledge from temporary foreign workers who apply to renew their Quebec acceptance certificate and who accumulated more than three years of work in Quebec. The only exception seems to be made for agricultural workers.

What could be more rewarding than being able to hug your children at the airport, just after they arrived in Canada to become permanent residents? The wait is now over for Juvy and her children, Johnellah and Paul. She came to Canada under the old live-in caregiver program and, after several years of hard work, a pandemic, more hard work and a few system errors along the line, Juvy was finally able to welcome her children at the Montreal airport earlier this month. Another family reunited in Canada and a lot of new things to do and discover together. All the best and good luck to each of you!

HOW CAN I GET A VISITOR WORK PERMIT?
We have been answering this question over and over for the past few weeks. For those who are still looking for the answer, you should know that there is no such thing as a visitor’s work permit. In reality, visitors are now eligible to apply for work permits without leaving Canada but they must follow the same procedure as if they were abroad. This starts with finding an employer first.

Before the pandemic and the current labor shortages, visitors who found employment in Canada and wanted to apply for a work permit had to go back to their country and apply from there.

Thanks to a public policy in place until February 2025, now you can do all this from inside Canada but you must take the following steps:
1. Find employment in a position for which you are qualified. Make sure you meet all the requirements of the job, as they are set out in the National Occupation Classification: level of education, training, experience, language skill etc.
2. The employer/company must apply for a Labour Market Impact Assessment in order to be permitted to hire a foreign worker
3. If you are in Quebec, the employer must also get authorized by the provincial government and you must obtain your own provincial validation
4. Finally, apply for the work permit
5. Make sure that your have valid visitor status when you submit the work permit application

At each step you and the employer must convince the federal and provincial government that you both meet all the requirements and other admissibility and eligibility criteria.

With other words, visitors cannot simply apply for a work permit and be allowed to work anywhere, for anybody. If approved, your document will be an employer-specific work permit with a limited duration, depending on the length of the authorization received by the employer.

While we cannot help you to find employers, we can help with the immigration procedure. Good luck with your job search!

**important clarification**

Can caregivers bring their spouses and kids to Canada while working?

According to IRCC current rules, your spouse and dependent children aren’t eligible at this time if you work in a TEER 4 or 5 job under the low-wage stream, the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program and the Agricultural Stream of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.

Caregivers are TEER 4 jobs and you must examine your salary listed on the LMIA to determine if you are under the low or high-wage stream. High-wage stream starts at 26$ per hour in Quebec, 27$ per hour in Ontario, 28.85$ per hour in Alberta etc. If your salary is below that value, you are under the low-wage stream and you do not qualify to bring your family as workers/students at this time. That rule may change in the future.

Can you believe that it took less than 6 months for these lucky ladies to become Canadian citizens? Well, that’s just the tip of the iceberg because Cecile worked hard for years to be reunited with her family in Canada. After spending a few years as permanent residents, they became eligible to apply for citizenship.
Cecile and her husband Virgilio left the Philippines and worked abroad for more than a decade before coming to Canada. They are the living proof that hard work, patience and determination really pay off. This week, Cecile and her twin daughters Donna and Kim became Canadian citizens during their online oath taking ceremony. Congratulations on your well-deserved success!

Harry is one of our most recently approved clients and he arrived in Canada at the beginning of this month. With an impressive work experience of over 7 years in Macao, he received a job offer in the beautiful alpine town of Jasper, Alberta, so he contacted us for assistance with his work permit application. The process went surprisingly fast, despite the delays occasioned by the federal government strike.

Welcome to Canada, Harry! Best of luck in your future endeavours! You are now one step closer to achieving your dreams!

Eligible Filipino nationals now qualify for visa-free travel to Canada

Immigration Canada announced today that Filipino travellers who have either held a Canadian visa in the last 10 years or who currently hold a valid United States non-immigrant visa won't need a visa to travel to Canada by air. These eligible travellers will be visa-exempt but they will need an electronic travel authorization, which is electronically linked to the traveller's passport. It is valid for 5 years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first.
Those who do not meet these criteria or are travelling to Canada by car, bus, train, or boat will still need a visitor visa.

What are the odds to become a Canadian citizen on your birthday? Geraldine had so much to celebrate earlier this week, as she took the citizenship oath in the comfort of her home and then went out for a birthday treat with her husband and son. A very busy day that started with cutting the PR card in front of the citizenship judge, taking the oath, signing the affirmation before taking some more photos with family and friends and, last but not least, going out to celebrate the double event. If you were wondering how the online citizenship ceremony looks like, Geraldine documented each step of her perfect day.
Happy Birthday, Geraldine, and congratulations for becoming a Canadian citizen!

What a pleasure it is to check your e-mail and read this “I got it!” Elizabeth is one of the happy owners of a recently-issued open work permit. She applied for PR under the TR to PR pathway for essential workers and she can now work for any employer, in any job, while waiting for her application to be finalized. An open work permit brings more flexibility and opens doors to new employment opportunities. But you must first apply for PR and make sure that you meet all the eligibility requirements. Well done, Elizabeth and good luck!

Did you know that these occupations are now exempt from advertising and recruitment requirements? As of December 6, 2021, and until December 31, 2024, if you receive a job offer in Quebec in any of these professions, the employer doesn't need to advertise the position and prove their efforts to recruit Canadians when they apply for a LMIA. This means more flexibility for foreign workers and employers. The new pilot project was created as the governments of Canada and Quebec have reached an agreement at the beginning of this month.

Congratulations for becoming Canadian citizens today, Jho An, Marco and Fritz! A very proud mother of two smart young boys, Jho An has reached today the top of her long journey on Canadian soil: she came first as a temporary resident, then she became a permanent resident and now she is finally a naturalized Canadian citizen. All these years of hard work and perseverance have paid off. Who knows, maybe we have in this photo a future “Forbes Under 30” entrepreneur star or a future great leader, an astronaut, because confident kids can be anything they want. And they chose Canada do make their dreams come true. Let’s wish them good luck with their future endeavors!
