Water shortages happen for a variety of reasons including drought, planned utility repairs and maintenance or unexpectedly, such as extreme temperature fluctuations causing pipes to freeze or burst. They can last minutes,
days or longer and can affect a single property, a building, a community, or an entire region. Be Prepared when an
unexpected water shortage occurs with these tips:

- Store bottled water for drinking, cooking and hygiene (4 liters per person per day).
- Create a contact list that includes your water service provider and emergency plumbers.
- Draw a map of your property’s main water line, add all fixtures and appliances with independent water valves, and include instructions on how to turn them on and off.

Did you know that an extreme cold warning is issued when temperatures or the wind chill index reaches minus 40°C or colder?

Being exposed to these conditions, even for short periods of time can be dangerous. Protect yourself and your loved ones by:

Staying indoors when possible. If you have to travel by car, know your route ahead of time and make sure you have a well-stocked emergency kit in your vehicle.

Dress in warm, windproof layers and watch for signs of frostbite, which can occur in less than 10 minutes in extreme cold weather conditions.

Do not overexert yourself when working outside. Sweating can lead to hypothermia, which can be fatal.

Make sure your pets have warm shelter during a cold snap.

12/18/2023

The arrival of the holiday season is a good reminder to remain vigilant about cybersecurity as malicious activities are more frequent this time of year.

Phishing attacks: be cautious of unexpected emails, especially those related to holiday deals, gift cards or shipping notifications. Verify the sender's legitimacy before clicking any links or downloading attachments. Instead, go directly to a vendor’s trusted website when looking for information.

Travel risks: if you're traveling within Alberta or Canada, ensure your devices are secure. Avoid using public Wi-Fi networks and lock your devices when not in use.

Educate family and friends: cybersecurity is a collective effort and raising awareness is one of the most effective ways to protect ourselves from cybercriminals.

By staying informed and practicing good cyber hygiene, we can enjoy the festivities while keeping our data safe. Let's work together to create a safer digital world for everyone.

11/10/2023

Diwali, the festival of lights, is celebrated on Nov. 12 this year. Fireworks are a fun way many people experience this occasion. While we hope you enjoy this event, we have some fireworks safety tips for you to consider.

In Leduc County, you do not need a permit to discharge fireworks, but there are guidelines to ensure you are discharging fireworks safely and respectfully.
Learn more https://ow.ly/x3g150Q6a5W...

Not only is it important to practice firework safety to reduce physical injuries, but it is important to be aware of the stress it may have on your neighbours. We recommend talking to your neighbours prior to discharging fireworks so they can take the necessary precautions.

Loud sounds and flashes of light caused by fireworks can also disturb livestock and animals, such as cattle, dogs, wildlife, birds, fish and even insects. Firework side effects can include anxiety, disorientation and abandonment of dens – consequently leaving offspring behind.

So, enjoy your celebrations and if that includes fireworks, please be considerate of your surroundings. Visit our website to learn more about firework safety https://ow.ly/Wv2a50Q6a5U...
