When it comes to antiques it is common to think they must be expensive because they are old.

In today's current market the conditions are perfect for the buyer. Good quality late 19th century Georgian pieces can be bought for a fraction of the price you may pay for a store bought peice of less quality. Lets face it, quality takes a back seat in today's mass production of disposable items.

Styles and fashions are constantly changing, and you can take advantage of that!
When quality pieces are not in demand today, you can be sure they will be tomorrow.
Some items are that are inexpensive now are because they are low in demand. Buy ignoring short term trends you can be a head of the game.

The mantel clock on the top is Alabaster and gilt-metal surmounted by a classical figure of a seated lady reading. It is French, late 19th century. Can be bought for $1,000
The mantel clock on the bottom can be bought for about $125. Compared to others of greater quality at $22,000.

Wax seals have a long history and were used by royalty, military officers and government officials to name a few.
Seals were used to insure privacy as well as to identify the sender by the initials, crest or personal motif or to authenticate documents.

If you have to polish it, they don't want it.

Don't Shoot The Messenger.

Based on popular t.v. shows about antiques and collectables have started the misconceptions of everything old is valuable.
Unfortunately that is not the whole story.
Most people dont realize that thousands of people attend, yet few items of high value to appear on the show. ( They are asked to appraise high for the camera, as it makes for great t.v)

It is heartbreaking to let someone know that their grandparents tea pot is just an old tea pot with little monetary value. Yet sometimes old stuff is just that..oĺd stuff.

A few factors to remember.. Condition,quality, desirability, rarity and provenance.
There's a lot of great stuff out there, just not every antique will pay the morgage.

We all have treasures we cherish and to us they are priceless, sentimental value is sometimes more significant than the cash. Keep it, use it , love it.
