Once guests have been given an orientation tour and have settled in comfortably, I can leave the property to them if I have need to be elsewhere. A three year old female border collie lives here. Suki is gentle and friendly. Children who have stayed here have loved playing with her. Her job is to bark at the occasional black bear that she smells in the forest to keep it out of the yard. On the deck side of the house there is a barbeque with a nearby fire pit. It is a cozy place at night to tend a small campfire and watch the stars twinkle in the big open sky. There are long forks provided to toast sausages and marshmallows. On the other side of the house there is a hillside waterfall. This is a nice place at night, too. The solar powered lanterns come on, as well as lights hidden in the rocks that focus on the water. It is deeply relaxing to sit here at night and take in the sights and sounds of the waterfall while looking up at the starry sky. A metal and ceramic table with a firepit centre provide a cozy focus to the experience. MOCKINGBIRD HILL GUEST GUIDELINES

It is just off Highway 4, fifteen minutes past Port Alberni on the way to Tofino and Pacific Rim National Park. It is very near Sproat Lake Provincial Park, where swimming, picnicking, water sports and fishing can be enjoyed. A convenience store, restaurant, and liquor store are within walking distance. There are many hiking trails in the area. A vehicle is necessary, as there is no public transportation to Port Alberni, the nearest city. The Tofino Bus can be caught, however, at its stop on the highway at the Sproat Lake Landing store, a few hundred yards away. The Tofino Bus or rental car can transport guests from the airport in Vancouver or from the ferry terminals on Vancouver Island.
