As kayakers we're used to admiring views and marine life from the water's surface.

But every once in a while we find a nice spot to perch ourselves and appreciate the Inlet from a different perspective.

That's all folks! Our paddling season has come to close after many adventures in this remote and magical archipelago we call home.

A huge and heartfelt haawa to our community who have supported us, our talented and dependable team and of course the many intrepid paddlers who opted to join us!

Throughout the winter our rental services will still be available by request.

We look forward to welcoming new and old friends for more journeys like these in 2025! Until then, paddle with purpose!

Meet Sierra!

Assistant Guide & Operations Coordinator.

Born and raised in BC, Sierra has always had an admiration for the outdoors. Her guiding career began at summer camps where she would explore the backcountry by foot or canoe with youth groups. This opened the door to the sea kayaking community where Sierra then took her sea kayak guide certification.

Having paddled in Desolation Sound, the waters of Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii, Sierra has experience in a variety of conditions. Ask her about marine life on your next tour!

Meet Mateo!

Owner & Operator of HGK, and also a Lead Guide.

Mateo’s journey on Haida Gwaii began in 2017 when he attended a semester in Natural Resource Management offered through the Haida Gwaii institute. It was in this unconventional classroom that he received a taste of everything this archipelago had to share. He continued his development as sea kayak guide on the North Coast and gradually relocated into the charming island community.

His guiding experience extends to the far reaches of New Zealand, Colombia and much of BC’s vast West Coast – with much familiarity in a dynamic array of ocean conditions. He has had the pleasure of guiding people from all backgrounds and aspires to leave those he tours with a distilled sense of wonder and respect for the natural world.

Hey everyone, meet Josh!

We are excited to welcome Josh as one of our Lead Guides this season.

Josh’s guiding journey began when he attended the Adventure Tourism and Business Operations program in Golden, BC. This ignited his passion of sea kayaking and guiding and brought him to the Johnstone Strait, the Broughton Archipelago and eventually Haida Gwaii.

These years of guiding and personal trips pushed him to paddle in strong current, surf and swell at locations ranging the length of Vancouver Island. Josh’s love of wildlife and the ocean drives his guiding career and his continued exploration of new waters.
