šGROS MORNE MOUNTAIN IS OPEN FOR HIKINGš
Now that summer is here and the young arctic hare, rock ptarmigan, and caribou are moving along, both the approach and the summit trails are open for the summer!š
These two trails have very different trail conditions, difficulty levels, and time required:
š²Gros Morne Mountain - Approach
The 4.5 km trail to the base of the mountain is made up of gradual climbs and fantastic views. The return trip could be 2.5 to 3.5 hours and is a very rewarding hike on its own. A waterfall halfway up is a great destination for a shorter hike.
š„¾Gros Morne Mountain - Summit
Once youāve reached the base, the Summit trail is an additional 3 - 5 hours on an 8 km loop with a 500 m elevation gain, rough conditions, and more wonderful views. For safety, choose a clear day and make sure you have enough time to get back to the parking lot before dark. You should have clothing for possible cold weather on top, 3 litres of water per person, hiking boots, food, and a first-aid kit.
