Finished the clean up last week from a job that got snowed out late last fall up in Baysville. 17 birch, poplar and ash trees all with heavy leans into the cottage and bunkie. It was a rough clean up but both the customer and I are happy it is all sorted out.

Three reasons why winter is the best time for routine tree maintenance:
1- No leaves: with no leaves on the tree this will allow your tree specialist to really get a look at what needs to be done to improve tree health, diagnose any disease the tree may have and come up with a prescription. (No leaves also means easier clean up which translates to cheaper prices for you!)
2- Trees go dormant in the winter allowing a tree specialist to prune dead and diseased limbs with significantly lower risk to damaging the rest of the healthy tree.

I haven't posted in a while so here is a quick video of a white pine, close to 100' getting toppled over. It's up in Port Carling at a beautiful cottage getting ready for a massive renovation. It was a fun drop!!

I took down this Blue Spruce yesterday once the rain broke. You can see the top started to die and the home owner wanted it down before it got worse and became a danger. It was a fun couple hours deconstructing this monster.

Hanging out in some dead Ash trees yesterday. A fun day in the office for sure! Thanks Mikey for the pics and your help on your vacation!
Tip of the day;
Take a good look at your backyard canopy. Pay close attention to the heavy clusters of trees, they tend to choke each other out. It's better to thin these clusters out and make room for a healthy happy tree life.

Took down this beauty of a Red Maple today as well as this unkept crab apple tree. Unfortunately the maple had to come down in order to do some home renovations. It was a sunny not so hot day which is great to climb trees in! Thanks for the work Robyn!!

Helping Integrated Woodlot Management drop this monster Scots Pine on Lake Simcoe. It's rare to find such a straight and true scots. It was a very sweet tree! What a beauty day!

I had a great day in the office. Just missed the rain after clearing a path for a new fence. The customer asked to leave a 10' pole for a carving. I'm excited to see what it becomes.

Took a tour out to Tottenham today to meet with a client that had a large tree come down onto her house during the ice storm. Very sad to see the devastation out there--pretty much every tree has storm damage. Will be a long time before everything is cleaned up. Call us if you need help with your storm clean up. It's always much easier to deal with damaged trees before the leaves appear.

I was in Penetang today taming this beast for a new friend. It was full of character so the homeowner asked to take the danger out of it but leave as much of the cool branches as possible. Here is the end result. We can become attached to our trees. It is important to maintain them to eliminate the dangers to ourselves and our property.

Look Ma! No hands! Dropped 5 large trees up on Rill Lake in the Lake of Bays area today for a good friend and his neighbour. What a fun and beautiful day today!

This red maple had two branches that tore off with the ice storm. There was clear signs of previous rot where the damage occurred. It is important with these larger trees, to nip the rot issues in the bud by having them inspected and sealed in areas most susceptible for moisture and pests to get in. Luckily only two of the main trunks had to be taken down and the home owners were able to have this beaut stay standing for privacy and esthetics. (I was excited to get to work and forgot to take an accurate before picture. I'll get it next time! 😉)

Clearing debris after dropping this Pear tree. This large fruit tree was becoming a pest to the neighbour when it would drop it's fruit on their garage and lawn. The home owner also wants to make room to demo the small shed behind me and build a new one where the tree was located. Although fruit bearing trees can be a lovely addition to your landscaping, it is important to prune regularly and enjoy the fruit before they drop and become a sticky, animal attracting mess.
