We are saying a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported the 2023-2024 Annual Fund campaign so far! We're just 11% short of our goal and need your help to reach $650,000. Here’s a glimpse at the SCS community’s donation dollars in action, and the remaining items on our Priority List. For those who still wish to donate, visit scs.on.ca/donatenow to make your gift online. Thank you, from SCS! ❤️

Today marked an important milestone in our building project: the Big Pour, where 45 cement trucks poured the ground floor of our new building - 13” thick! We're so excited for this step - and that construction is now moving 'above ground'.Between the excitement of seeing the renderings in Assembly and the construction progress today, we can hardly wait to be in our new space! #SCStrailblazer

Last week, we celebrated the Grade 6 class as they graduated from the Junior School! Congrats to all our Grade 6s - welcome to Middle School!
Grade 8 students taking the Art and Design course have been hard at work on their Design Thinking projects. Design thinking doesn’t follow linear steps from A to B; it’s an iterative process that teams use to understand users, challenge assumptions, look at problems in a different way, and create innovative solutions to prototype and test. The teams of Grade 8s were posed this challenge: design innovative solutions to issues (or opportunities) in the fashion industry. All of the teams have come up with solutions and are now in the “testing” phase of the Design Thinking process.
Here’s where the SCS community comes in! The designers are looking for feedback on their solutions in order to further refine their prototypes. Each group has created a video of their proposed solution – check them out on Flipgrid and leave comments for the designers! Current students, staff, and families can access the Flipgrid link and password on School Talk on Edsby. (Community members without Edsby access can email [email protected] for the link.)

The Grade 3s, in collaboration with singer-songwriter, Mimi O’bonsawin, wrote an original composition called ‘Wildlife’ that reflects on land stewardship.
Each Grade 3 class recorded this song separately, and then they were layered together to create what you hear in this recording.
Students are so grateful for their partnership with Mimi!

Wildlife
Wildlife is art.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall.
Animals make me happy
In the moment -- I am here.
I love being in nature,
Breathing in the fresh air.
I love the way the snow falls
light and sparkly.

I love the plants and the rainforest,
Cats, foxes, flowers, and the sun.
I love the moon, the stars, and Saturn,
The seven seas, I love 'em all.

We were so happy to welcome alumna Barbara (Beatty) Hickman '44 back to SCS this morning - a surprise on her 96th birthday! The first stop on her tour of the current school building was the Grade 3 classroom, where students were waiting to sing Happy Birthday. (As it turns out, Grade 3 was when Barbara started at SCS!)

Happy #EarthDay! 🌎🌍🌏 Although today is special, it’s important to treat every day like it’s Earth Day. Let’s take care of our planet! 🌱 A few weeks ago, Grade 6 celebrated Earth Day and Earth Month with a presentation during Junior School Assembly. Enjoy this little snippet!
Today, we held our first in-person full school assembly in over 2 years! It was an emotional and exciting morning for all of us. 🥺😊

”I have never played in a band before and may never again be invited to, but I’m so grateful to our Jazz Band for the impromptu invitation!”
During this morning’s full school e-ssembly, we celebrated Windsor House Day! Students and staff donned purple and/or Scooby-Doo attire, and enjoyed this video of students competing in the Windsor House Day Relay Challenge. 💜
Students in the Junior School, led by the Grade 5s, have been exploring the history and significance of Black History Month through the use of some special mentor texts. They are excited to share their learning with you!
