The focus will be on the Florentine contribution to literature and the arts in the context of the
social and political changes taking place from the 14th to the 16th centuries. Knowledge of Italian is not required. This course counts towards the major and minor in Italian Culture. Key issues in contemporary Italian society are studied in their historical development, with focus on the following: unification and its aftermath; regionalism; Fascism and the Resistance; political parties and intellectuals; the Church; art and literature.
