It's time to stand up for our kids! Nova Scotia has introduced a “Universal Provincial Lunch
Program,” but only Trenton Elementary is included in phase one—Trenton Middle School is left
out. 👈👈While elementary families benefit, middle school students are being overlooked, despite
both schools serving the same community.
The situation is even more frustrating because meals for the program are being prepared at
Trenton Middle School but not served to its students. To make matters worse, the TMS cafeteria
will no longer offer current lunch options and will instead provide the new program's meals—at
full cost—while other schools get them for free. This is unfair and leaves many students without
affordable meal options.
Here are the key issues:
● Grades 5 & 6 students in Trenton are excluded from phase one.
● TMS prepares meals for the elementary, yet its own students may go hungry.
● The cafeteria is adjusting to serve the universal program instead of meeting current
student needs.
● TMS students must pay full price for meals offered free elsewhere.
This is not fair or equitable. If you’re angry, you should be! Contact your local officials to demand
equal treatment for all our students:
