AM 650 Scores with Sportstalk
Dan Russell takes his iconic sports talk show to a new home this fall. Lions’ 1985 Grey Cup victory. The Vancouver Canucks’ run to the finals in 1994. The Molson Indy. The 2010 Olympic Winter Games. For 30 years, Dan Russell’s Sportstalk has covered it all on the local sports scene. This fall, Sportstalk lands at its new home, on All Time Favourites AM 650. As always,
the game’s not over until you hear Sportstalk, Vancouver’s postgame gathering place after Canucks games both home and away. Dan Russell’s Sportstalk will debut Sunday at 9pm, September 29 on AM 650. Often imitated, Sportstalk was the first program of its kind in Vancouver. Dan Russell debuted the market’s first-ever sports talk show on CJOR back on October 15, 1984, balancing news and opinions with a chance for fans to make their voices heard.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to work with someone as talented as Dan Russell,” says AM 650 Program Director Stu Ferguson. “Quite simply, Dan stands alone in the unique content he has delivered for all these years.”
“We think our show provides an important independent voice that’s needed in the Vancouver sports market,” adds Russell. Some exciting changes are planned to refresh Sportstalk, starting with the show’s new Sunday to Thursday night timeslot. In addition, veteran sports mind Lee Powell will be joining the proceedings. With 35 years of local experience, Powell’s knowledge and credibility run deep when it comes to sports in Vancouver. Longtime producer Heath Morgan will be continuing with the Sportstalk team.
