Good news from Vancouver Canada Place. Embarkation in Vancouver just got easier and faster!

Vancouver is the first city in North America, and perhaps the world, to adopt biometric facial-scanning technology to speed boarding on cruise ships, according to the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (VFPA).

Passengers on Vancouver-departing cruise ships need to first go through U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). CBP agents recently started a new system for identifying embarking passengers. They now hold iPad-like devices to scan embarking passengers by taking photos of them. Those photos are then within seconds compared to photos in the passengers' pre-trip travel documentation to ensure that the person boarding is the person identified in the documents.

This new system replaces one that involved stand-alone passport-scanning kiosks and is only available for Canadian and American citizens. Passengers who are nationals of other countries will still need to go through the manual process of having documents checked.

Of course everyone still needs to pass security searches prior to this so don't expect to not have lines though. 😊

So long Palm Springs and Westjet! While we didn’t have any horrendous experiences with Westjet nor Westjet Mastercard, the Amex Cobalt came highly recommended. Reason #1 you like to travel, reason #2 you like/need to eat! This card gives you 5x the points on grocery stores and restaurants, 3x the points on any streaming services and 1x the points on everything else. We have had the card for one month and have already earned enough points for a round trip flight to Hawaii with Air Canada! We have only come across 2 places that don’t take Amex thus far (and we have a trick to get around that if you are interested let me know).
