We kicked off our cruise Tourism season with at the Okeechobee Lodge. Our Anishinabe guides connected our guests to Odawa Mnis through wampum, treaty relationships, and Wiigwaas Jiimaan (birch bark canoe) teachings. Passengers enjoyed a drum & dance presentation followed by culinary samples of smoked fish and herbal teas. We are happy to be back sharing our home with the great lakes cruisers.

During the Pipe Gathering, we will be taking time to welcome four pipes on their first visit home.

These pipes will be at Manitowaning (treaty signing site) on Wednesday May 22 — Similarly to last year's gathering and the return of the 1836 Treaty Pipe, this will be another historic event as this is the first time these four pipes will return to our area. We would greatly appreciate all our communities being represented on this day to honor these old ones.

There will be a ceremony held for these ancestors and a traditional feast to follow at noon on Wednesday, May 22.

We want to thank the Royal Ontario Museum for their continued partnership and helping these ancestors come for this gathering.

For those wanting to get a little more insight on the significance of this welcoming home ceremony or to get an idea of which pipes will be coming, please check out this article that ROM Anthropology Curator/Staff, Arni Brownstone (1974 - 2022) wrote regarding the Manitoulin Pipes:https://www.rom.on.ca/sites/default/files/publication/pdf/brownstone_manitoulin20pipes1.pdf
