Black-headed Heron is a wading bird of the heron family Ardeidae, commonly found in and other sub-Saharan African countries. It is mainly resident, but some West African birds move further north in the rainy season. This species usually breeds in the wet season in colonies in trees, reed beds or cliffs. It builds a bulky stick nest, and lays 2–4 eggs. It often feeds in shallow water, spearing fish or frogs with its long, sharp bill. It can also hunt well away from water, taking large insects, small mammals, and birds. It just waits motionlessly for its prey, or slowly stalks its victim. The black-headed heron is a large bird, standing 85 cm tall, and it has a 150 cm wingspan. It is nearly as large as the grey heron, which it resembles in appearance, although it is generally darker. Its plumage is largely grey above, and paler grey below. It has a powerful dusky bill. Uganda harbors over 1000 bird species including 23 out of 24 Albertine rift endemics.

The young and cute baby gorilla from Nshongi gorilla family, so playful!
Nshongi gorilla group is located in Rushaga part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Nshongi is the name of a river close to where this gorilla family was first sighted. The river has a deep color similar to honey, and as honey in the local language is called “Omushongi Gwoboki” the river was named Nshongi.
Habituation of this family begun in early 2007, and it was officially launched for tourism on 26th September 2009. This family is unique in that it has 36 individuals and growing, with the 3 silverbacks and 7 black backs living in relative harmony. Even more astonishing is the fact that the dominant silverback – Nshongi is not the oldest silverback in the group.
When you go for gorilla trekking, the baby gorillas are the most interesting, with playful attitudes, you would wish you don’t leave the bush!!! But few hours you have in the jungle will wrap it all for your unforgettable experience.

HAPPY BIRTH DAY ZAKAYO!!!

Smiles surround the face of the oldest chimpanzee in Uganda, Zakayo as he celebrates his 54th birth day today!!!

Statistically, the life expectancy of a Ugandan person averaged 54.46 years in 2008 which improved in 2017 to 59.18 years, we pray that Zakayo can reach here and more!!!

The Uganda wildlife education center will be holding a special ceremony at their premises in Entebbe and invite everyone to join in on the celebrations.
In 1964, Zakayo was found abandoned in Semiliki National Park by an unknown white man who took care of him for 12 years before surrendering him to the Wildlife Center.
He went on to become the alpha male from 1976 to 2011 when he gave power to a younger chimp named named Matooke who was later toppled by another named Aluma.
Although he is no longer the alpha male, Zakayo is still a highly respected member of the 18 strong troop of chimpanzees at UWEC.
Chimps are man's closest living relatives, sharing more than 98 percent of our genetic blueprint. Humans and chimps are also thought to share a common ancestor who lived some four to eight million years ago.

A mountain gorilla leader (silver back) organizes troop activities like eating, nesting in leaves, and moving about the group's 0.75-to-16-square-mile home range.

Those who challenge this alpha male are apt to be cowed by impressive shows of physical power. He may stand upright, throw things, make aggressive charges, and pound his huge chest while barking out powerful hoots or unleashing a frightening roar. Despite these displays and the animals' obvious physical power, gorillas are generally calm and non-aggressive unless they are disturbed.

Forest elephants despite their being endangered, are still in .

Like all other elephants, the forest elephant has beautiful tusks on either side of its face. Unfortunately, this ivory makes it a target for poachers who slaughter elephants to obtain it. About 62% of all forest elephants have been killed for their ivory in the last decade. in Uganda, you can find these amazing elephants in impenetrable and forests, the primate capital of the world. Dear Joseph,

Tank you a lot for the nice days we spent in Uganda. We are still enjoying the beautiful memories, now we are back in snowy Austria.

You asked us to write down our experiences and we are happy to do that for you.

The lodges where we stayed have been lovely. The stay was nice and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The Driver, we are sure Noah is the best driver of whole Uganda, was a brilliant guide- not just on the roads, but also in finding all the animals during the Game Drives. He was very thoughtful and had a sollution for every of our problems. We arme so glad he was assisting us, please thank him again if you see him.

The only thing we could think of that could have been better or different (but perhaps this is just us) is that we would have loved to enjoy more of the local food. The food is, like the culture of the countries you travel to, a special experience we really like to enjoy.
This is why we where very happy every time Noah took us to one of the local restaurants during our trips. The food there was good and tasty and has given us a good impression of the local cooking.

Thank you so much again for the wonderful days,

Dear Joseph!
Thank you for organizing our trip so well. We really enjoyed it.
We were so happy about Noah.
He is so unobtrusive, polite, helpful and very competent. Beside that he is a great driver. His knowledge about the country and his perfect English accomplished the success of the trip.
We had a really good feeling traveling with him.

We also liked the lodges.
Only the Engagi Lodge was not so good.
It was nice located and had a helpful and friendly staff, but the rooms were too humid. They cannot be ventilated very well. Also the food was very British without taste.
Beside that we would have preferred more local food instead in all the lodges.

Uganda and its people made us really happy. We hope we can com again.
Kind regards
Jutta and Leopold
