This tour offers an off-the-beaten-path mountain trekking experience along with time to relax and enjoy some of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica. When we joined the Peace Corps and moved to Costa Rica in 1987 we had no idea how important Costa Rica would become for the rest of our lives. Now, decades later, we are still trying to keep Costa Rica beautiful and help others enjoy this amazing
country. We know there are numerous opportunities to visit luxury resorts, or just hang out on a beautiful beach or take an eco-tour in some of the amazing national parks that dot Costa Rica. However, we believe that some people want a vacation that can offer both a challenging adventure and some time for comfort and relaxation. So, we have developed a tour that we feel is the tour we would want our families, and our friends, to experience – a combination of an off-the-beaten-path adventure and a nice relaxing time in a nice villa close to the beach. This tour is not for people looking for a luxury beach resort, and it is not for people that want to travel the country with a backpack and a low budget. Rather, this tour is for people looking for something in between. We offer an opportunity to select a variety of activities in both a coastal area, and in a rural mountain village – from leisurely hikes to extreme mountain trekking to some of the highest peaks in Central America. You will have a full-time guide/driver assigned to your group, so he/she will always be available to help you find places to go, set up things to do, go shopping and do other errands and help you and your group get around with minimal effort. Moreover, the full-time tour guide will offer additional assurance that all will turn out well if a car breaks down or someone gets lost or sick or needs some extra assistance. The tour can last between four and six nights – the price is the same but you can choose the length that works best for you. The tour covers both the mountain terrain and the small towns and beaches of southern Costa Rica. Your home base will be in the small beach town of Dominical – located on the Pacific coast about 45 minutes south of Quepos. You will be based in a beautiful two-bedroom house in the hills about 3 miles from the beach. The house is newly built and fully furnished with a detached garage and a large deck overlooking the Baru River Valley. The house is surrounded by a deep, lush tropical hardwoods forest but there are several other houses within a 10-minute walk from the house.
