We hope you enjoy this quick overview video from Surfing Nosara showing the stunning beauty of the Nosara, Costa Rica area. Our goal is for you to get a glim...
This photo was taken last week at Playa Ostional, about four miles from Casa Coconut. As you may know, this particular beach is one of the largest nesting areas for sea turtles in the entire world, and as such, is protected by the government from development. Each month, coinciding with the full moon, a miracle called "arribada" or the arrival occurs. As many as 300,000 turtles can show up on this small stretch of beach in a few days, to lay their eggs, which hatch about 60 days later. A true miracle of nature happening right up the road from us, we are blessed.

This is our official review/story of our vacation at Casa Coconut. Most of you know that Jim and I have been close friends our entire lives. That being said, I am trying to give a completely unbiased review of our time there.
To begin with… if you are used to being pampered and waited upon, if you need your AC, if you need all-inclusive buffet lines, if you don’t enjoy the sounds of the fantastic local wildlife in the morning, Nosara is probably not for you.
However, if you wish to experience nature as it was intended by God with pristine, undeveloped beaches, if you enjoy getting off the grid, if you like to experience the local cuisine, if you enjoy exploring the small town and interacting with the local residents, if you like waking up with great coffee and stroll a couple minutes to the beach for sunrise, if you like the privacy of casitas (little houses), well then… Casa Coconut is JUST the place for you. It was more than enough room and the bed was very comfortable. It’s been two weeks since we returned home, and we miss Costa Rica and Jim and Shelley very much. Neither of us spoke much Spanish, but Jim acted as our guide showing us around and helping us with some translations. But, we quickly realized, it was rather easy to communicate, as a many do speak some English, and the rest, we just figured out. I highly recommend renting an ATV for your time. It’s fun and it’s the best way to explore the town. Nosara is known as a surfing and yoga town. We do neither, and there’s plenty to do
Jim warned us about the 2-1/2 + hour drive from the airport. The last hour or so being on a very bumpy dirt road. But, to us, it was no big deal. It’s not even a consideration when planning our trip. We enjoyed the scenery and the time went by fast. There’s a great sign not far from Casa Coco that reads “BAD ROADS BRING GOOD PEOPLE”. It makes complete sense to us now.
Our first morning there, we were fortunate to discover a rare sea turtle hatching. We feel blessed to have experience this miracle of nature. We also feel we did our part protecting these cute defenseless squirts as they embarked on their initial life journey to the Pacific… which was about 50 feet. But, there’s so much nature, we spotted 12 ft. croc sun bathing on the nearby river bank, howler monkeys on the property with little babies clinging to their mother, too many birds to count… plus we can not forget our loyal friends Fonzy, Lacy and Layla. Layla in particular took a liking to Tanya… maybe because Tanya was slipping her treats from time to time??? Sorry honey, the secret is out.
We began talking about our next visit the Casa Coco next year. The only thing we plan on changing is bringing some of our own fishing gear and staying at least 10 days. The “one week” s**t doesn’t cut in Costa Rica. I’m happy to answer any questions you might have with our stay.
Thank you Jim and Shelly for being such gracious hosts. Miss you guys.
Michael and Tatiana Larson
