Villa Tugendhat was built in 1929–1930 for Greta and Fritz Tugendhat to a design by the German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich.
Mies’ design principle of “less is more” and emphasis on functional amenities created a fine example of early functionalist architecture, a groundbreaking new vision in building design at the time.
It is the only example of modern architecture in the Czech Republic inscribed in the list of UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites.
Villa Tugendhat has also become a venue for political meetings. The most famous of these took place in 1992, when the then prime ministers Václav Klaus and Vladimír Mečiar agreed in the garden on the division of Czechoslovakia.

⚔️ Slavkov at Brno city 🇦🇹 X 🇷🇺 X 🇫🇷
We have just visited a memorial to one of the most famous battles from Napoleonic wars - Battle of Austerlitz (2 December 1805), which is close to Brno (Czech Republic). Napoleon managed to defeat in this battle both Russian and Austrian Empires. Because 3 emperors fought there at the same time, it is called “Battle of the Three Emperors”.

🌉🌁 Charles Bridge in Prague 🏰🇨🇿
#️⃣1️⃣3️⃣5️⃣7️⃣9️⃣7️⃣5️⃣3️⃣1️⃣
👉🏻 This is an astrological date picked by Holy Roman Emperor and Bohemian King Charles IV. (also known as Charles of Luxembourg) for laying the foundation stone of the Charles Bridge. The building of the medieval bridge took him and his son Wenceslas IV. more than 50 years.
👉🏻 Charles IV. wanted to build a bridge that would be strong enough to survive floods. The previous medieval bridge in Prague - Judith Bridge - collapsed because of one flood that came in 1342.

🪦 At the end of Sněmovní street at Pětikostelní square in Prague stands the recently unveiled monument to Dr. Milada Horáková, which also stands to commemorate resolve and resistance against totalitarianism. The winning design by Academic sculptor Josef Faltus shows a skylark, alighted on a microphone, like the one Milada Horáková stood in front of at the show trial for her alleged espionage and high treason.
👉🏻 So called “Monster Trials” were trials in communist Czechoslovakia during 1950s. They were made up trials focused to enemies of the communism or against some communist groups that were marked as enemies to the regime as well.

🪦 St. John of Nepomuk’s (or John Nepomucene’s) grave in ⛪️ St. Vitus Cathedral (Prague Castle) 🇨🇿
👉🏻 The saint was living in Kingdom of Bohemia from 1345 to 1393 , and he has this magnificent grave made of 2 tond (4000 Ib) of silver. It was ordered from our empress Maria Theresia in 1736.
👉🏻 He was one of the patron saints of the Czechs who was murdered during the bitter conflict of church and state that plagued Bohemia in the latter 14th century. In 1390 he was made vicar general for the archbishop of Prague. In 1393 the archbishop, with John’s support, excommunicated one of the favourites of King Wenceslas IV of Bohemia and thwarted the king’s ambition to make a new bishopric out of the province of Prague. John was arrested as the archbishop’s chief agent. Wenceslas personally tortured him with fire, after which he reconsidered and released him on an oath of secrecy regarding his treatment. John, however, was dying, and, to conceal the evidence, Wenceslas had him gagged, shoved into a goatskin, and cast into the Vltava River from the Charles Bridge in Prague. Bohemian Catholics later regarded him as a martyr. The Austrian chronicler Thomas Ebendorfferus’s account that John was killed for refusing to reveal to the king the confessions of his wife, Queen Sophia, was officially declared false in 1961.
👉🏻 The most famous sculpture on the Charles Bridge in Prague. Hundrets of people touch relief under his sculpture hoping, that their wishes will come true.

🏛️ Former City Hall of Castle Town in Prague ⚖️
👉🏻 The Town Hall was built in 1598 when the Castle Town in Prague was promoted to royal city. The town hall was rebuilt for residential purpose in 1784. The house has nice Renaissance sgrarito facsde until today. On the facade you can see imperial coat of arms, alegory of justice and coat of arms of Castle Town.
📸 On the door you can find “Prague Elbow”. The elbow standard was placed on buildings near marketplaces or squares so that merchants (usually cloth sellers) would not argue when negotiating trades. The elbow standard was placed on the buildings either in the form of a metal rod or was engraved in the stone of the building. The elbow is less than 60 cm (about 23 inches), but it is not a clear-cut measure, because there were several types of elbow – Prague, Czech, Moravian, Viennese…

🏛️🚂Prague Main Railway Station
👉🏻 It is the lagest Art Nouveau building in Prague and the lagest rail way station in the Czech Republic. The historic building and the hall above the railway yard are among the most significant Art Nouveau monuments in the Czech Republic. A plethora of shops and food establishments will make waiting for your connection more pleasant. Occasional themed exhibitions are held in the check-in hall.
🛤️ Original Neo-Renaissance building was rebuilt by architect Josef Fanta between 1901 and 1909, who won the the competition with a project that envisioned the entrance hall based on the principles of Art Nouveau style as a semicircular central pavilion with cash desks and entrances to the platform (today the space serves as a café). The entrance façade from the street comprises a large window in the shape of an arch. From the central section, two wings end with three-story buildings. The complex was enhanced with four towers: two that complete the edges of the central vestibule with peaks formed by glass globes. The other two adorn the wing buildings, each with a clock, and the south tower also features the symbol of the railways - a winged wheel.

✌️☮️🇨🇿 John Lennon Wall in Prague (Lesser Town)
👉🏻 A wall covered with paintings of John Lennon, Beatles’ song lyrics and peace signs. It became to be a peaceful place where Czechs expressed their defiance against communism. In 1980, when someone brought here a symbolic Lennon’s grave stone, people started to paint his face here and write Beatles lyrics. John Lennon has never visited Prague. It was imposible during communism. Anyhow local anti-communists considered him and Beatles as a symbol of freedom and western world.
People can write here their political opinions or poems until today with markers.
