Africa Day is the annual commemoration of the 1963 founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), presently recognized as the Africa Union (AU). The African Union, comprises of 53 member states, has brought together the continent of Africa to collectively address the challenges it has faced, such as armed conflict, climate change, and poverty. 2014 is the year of Agriculture and the overarching theme is “Transforming Africa’s Agriculture : harnessing opportunities for inclusive growth and sustainable development”.

How African Union 50th Anniversary was Celebrated in Denmark
Embassies of African Union (AU) Member States in Denmark celebrated 50 years anniversary of African Union on October 20th, 2013 at the Danish National Museum in Copenhagen, Denmark. The main administrative capital of the African Union is in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where the Africa Union Commission is headquartered.
The vision of African Union is to have “an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in global arena”.
Some of the representatives at the event described some significant cooperation that have brought unity between the African countries and the people of Africa. Although some admitted that there are still some challenges in the continent, majority pointed at the upward trend in economic growth and the significant progress in meeting the Millennium Development Goals.
Ambassadors of all the African Union member states in Denmark, Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, including representatives from the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union member states in Denmark and many dignitaries were in attendance.
Activities during the day included a football match between teams from Embassies of AU and EU member states in Denmark, short speeches, photo exhibition – “From OAU to AU”, musical performance by Dawda Jobarteh “Northern Light Gambian Night” and a presentation of Afrowood film festival.
Her Excellency, Ambassador Monique Ilboudo of Burkina Faso, who is also the Dean of African Ambassadors in Denmark, shared her view about the AU 50th anniversary with Afroscandic.

Enan Galaly, the most famous dishwasher who is now Hotel Tycoon
In this interview, Afroscandic spoke with Enan Galaly the famous dishwasher whose live is an inspiration to young people everywhere. Enan Galaly is a philanthropist, entrepreneur and a subject for media interest around the world.
No one would ever believe that the 20 years old young man, who left Egypt with ten English pounds starting his career as a newspaper seller and a dishwasher, would become after years, the Senior Advisor for the International Association for University Presidents, knight of Dannebrog of Denmark, the Founder and president of Helnan International Hotels among others.
Her Majesty Queen Margrette II of Denmark signed an official Royal decree to bestow on Enan Galaly, one of the highest titles in Denmark, “Knight of Dannebrog“. This honor is considered by the country as an appreciation for his role and efforts in exerting to serve and enhance locally and internationally the “Royal Danish Kingdom” prestige and significance.
Enan Galaly travelled to Vienna, Austria, where he sold newspaper and lived on the streets, and then made his way to Denmark, where he washed dishes to earn meals. From such inauspicious beginning, he went on to build an international hotel chain and become an influential world citizen.
Galaly had neither money, experience nor even an education therefore; he had to depend on his mind, and his initiative and hard work when deciding to wash dishes for the purpose of getting a meal in the hotel and restaurant industry.
Then he took up different jobs in hotels and restaurants to increase his business experience. He joined the hotel and restaurant school in Denmark and developed his knowledge by taking special studies in economics at the school of commerce and a degree from The Hotel and Restaurant School. After several years in Denmark, he became a Danish citizen.

Mayor of Næstved Municipality, Carsten Rasmussen interviewed
In this interview, Afroscandic spoke with Carsten Rasmussen, the Mayor of Næstved municipality in Denmark. Næstved municipality is situated in a region that is called Zealand (Sjælland) and it is about one hour drive from Denmark’s capital city, Copenhagen. Næstved hilly landscape was formed during the last Ice Age and today it offers many healthy and refreshing breathing spaces. The quiet beech wood gives their deep peace and quiet.
Næstved municipality is the second largest municipality near outside of Copenhagen. It has 81,000 inhabitants, 41,000 live in the city and another 40,000 live in the county. Næstved municipality is an old commercial city with many nice Buildings, Industries, standardized Hospital, University, Schools for children, amusement parks and big shopping centers among others.
The Mayor briefed Afroscandic about the good standard of living in the city, job opportunities, how to start a small and medium Enterprises (SMEs), interesting places to visit. He advised interested people who will like to start business in the city to contact the local business council and he promised that the council is ever ready to help people who are interested to get started.
For tourists and family visit , there are interesting places like the BonBon land, the fairytale castle, Gavnø and Zoopark, south Zealand’s best beach at Karrebæksminde, Zealand’s longest river – Susåen, which is perfect for canoe trip, Næstved automobile Museum, Art, and Galleries among others.

Benin Republic’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Visits Denmark
Benin Republic’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Dr. Nassirou Bako-Arifari, was on a three-day visit to Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen, for a session of negotiations aimed at strengthening economic cooperation between Denmark and Benin Republic in the fields of trade and investment.
Dr. Nassirou Bako-Arifari was accompanied by H.E. Mrs Martine Françoise Adjouavi Dossa, Minister for Maritime Economy and Port Infrastructures, H.E. Mrs Mariam Aladji Boni Diallo, Special Adviser for Diplomatic Affairs to the Head of State, Mr Jean-Baptiste Satchivi, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Benin (CCIB) and 8-strong business delegation.
During his visit from 11 to 13 April, H.E. Nassirou Bako-Arifari held a number of productive meetings to discuss national issues and areas of mutual concern.
He also made assurances that his government had put in place a series of measures to protect foreign investors.

Ambassador Nadia Mohamed Eisa Gofoun on International Trade Fair
Her Excellency, Ambassador Nadia Mohamed Eisa Gofoun, the Sudanese Ambassador that is accredited to Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland paid tribute to Nelson Mandela and shared how Nelson Mandela was honoured during a memorial service that was held in Oslo, Norway.
Ambassador Nadia Mohamed Eisa Gofoun also spoke about the largest international trade fair in Sudan, the “International Fair of Khartoum” where entrepreneurs and investors can get a lot of business, investment, and trade opportunities in Sudan.

Copenhagen Local Government Pre-Election Meeting between Top Politicians and International Residents.
The electoral event Make Your Opinion Count took place October 30th and was primarily aimed at international citizens living in Copenhagen, Denmark. About 300 people participated in the event that provided an introduction to the Danish political system, the upcoming municipal elections and the participant’s voting rights.
Furthermore, 7 political candidates running for the Copenhagen municipal election presented their views on Copenhagen as an international city and took questions from the audience.
The event was organized by Copenhagen International Service and Copenhagen Volunteers.

The day was indeed bright and beautiful and the sun was glowing gracefully as guest from all walks of life gathered in the city of Malmø to celebrate the 50th Birthday Anniversary of a great man of God Pastor Joshua Oladokun.

His well-organized 2- day extravaganza was filled with glamour, grandeur and was very entertaining. It was colorful and regal.
Who is Pastor Joshua Oladokun? When Lucius Annaeus Seneca wrote ‘’ it is a rough road that leads to the heights of greatness’’ he had Pastor Joshua Oladokun in mind.
Pastor Joshua Oladokun is a husband, father, pastor, philanthropist, an entrepreneur and investor with successful companies in his portfolio. He was born on the 2nd of April in 1963 to Pa Isaac and Abigael Oladokun in Odoka compound, Ifelodun local government area, Iree, Osun state. Nigeria.
He attended Baptist Day School from 1970 to 1976 and as he could not further his education, he decided to learn fashion designing and subsequently moved to Benin where he served as a fashion designing apprentice before he started his own fashion designing outlet in Benin City. He also alongside his fashion designing business ran a car business with his Uncle.
