During the traditional contemporary art fair season in Copenhagen, Institut français in Denmark is delighted to invite you to the exhibition of Millepatte - Tusindben, a duo show by artist Marielle Paul and designer Maud Paul.

The exhibition is presented in partnership with Galerie Maria Lund, Paris and ENTER Art Fair and takes place in the new exhibition space dedicated to emerging contemporary art at the French Institute in Frederiksberg.
Marielle, the mother, paints in Paris while Maud, the daughter, designs furniture in Maastricht. Millepatte -Tusindben is their mother-daughter conversation, nourished by a shared taste for play and a common fascination for the vitality of nature: shapes and colors abound and vibrate with humor. Marielle’s restless Mosaïques make their way along the wall, while Maud’s Millipede sofa takes a few steps on the floor. Their palettes intersect: bright and vivid with refined tones. Marielle’s is carried by the pigmented, matte gouache matter, and Maud’s by cozy textiles. Their two worlds, punctuated by the contours of Marielle’s solid colors and the metal tubes of Maud’s furniture, remain flexible, ready to mutate. The boundaries between art and design are suspended: Marielle flirts with ornament and Maud with sculpture. Mother and daughter play with fertile ambiguities, and their creations reveal how their artistic practices move forward, evolve and sometimes intersect.

We are currently exhibiting video art “Tonight with Zachary Khan 27/09/1463AH-2044AD” at the CBS digital art space🌱

From the golden calf to the Taleban's demolition of the Bamiyan Buddha, from Akhenaten to the removal of confederate war statues in the US, history is filled with violent disagreement over which images have the right to exist.

With the burgeoning production, consumption, and dissemination of images, with serve-algorithms and infinite feeds, the seductive power of the image now seems incontestable. Thor Tao Hansen's film work investigates possibilites and paradoxes of aniconistic or iconoclastic forms of resistance in our contemporary moment.

Three weeks have passed since our 10-year anniversary and the groundbreaking performance of HYPER! for the first time shown on Danish soil, an event that shook CBS to its core and turned the campus Dalgas Have into a mesmerizing spectacle of music and art.

On the slippery black and white tiles of Dalgas Have, the performance of HYPER! took place, capturing the attention of everyone in the building - making it hard to look away. On two level stories, people gazed down, confused by the affective play unfolding below them. HYPER!, conceived by Esben Weile Kjær, turned the school into a playground for club-goers: the inflatable flowers crafting a space to move around and within. Fashionable performers entered this magical space, engaging with each other to the beat of electronic music. Moving, in a sensual manner and then suddenly turning aggressive. What was going to be their next move? Convulsing to the beat or sinking into the giant sculptures, the dancers lived a life of their own. A life of their imagination, disconnected from the onlookers.

The young artist Esben Weile Kjær has emerged as a visionary force in the art world. After graduating from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2022, Esben has defied categorization through his diverse and interdisciplinary approach to art. Having studied Music Management before the Academy, Esben often combines music and art in his performance works. His thought-provoking pieces have been showcased at prestigious institutions such as Kunstforening Gl Strand, Copenhagen Contemporary, and Statens Museum for Kunst. Beyond Denmark's borders, he has also gained international recognition, exhibiting at esteemed platforms like Paris Internationale, Nordic Contemporary in Paris, and Karlin Studios in Prague. Through his dynamic and captivating art, Esben Weile Kjær has transcended boundaries and captivated audiences worldwide, leaving an undeniably mark on the art world.

We in CBS Art thank everybody involved, making our 10 year anniversary unforgettable!

HYPER! by Esben Weile Kjaer performed on the 18th of May 2023 at Dalgas Have CBS

What follows is a short reflection on the event:

Coming home from Japan in February, I was looking forward to taking part in Danish culture again. I decided to go to to attend the opening of BUTTERFLY! by the Danish artist Esben Weile Kjaer. At the event, I met several of my team members in , all very inspired by the show. My friend and colleague approached me, full of life, telling me that “she felt seen”: that this up-and-coming Danish artist succeeded in capturing something… Something about our generation…Something about our fears… Or something of what’s important to us? It was hard to pinpoint exactly what it was, but we all felt we had witnessed something special.

Time passed and we started to plan the 10 year anniversary of CBS Art. We dreamed about realizing a daring artistic intervention: something that would shake up the school a little bit! In recent years, CBS has become increasingly focused on finance, closing down the more creative programs, making it difficult to get our projects approved. The organization’s advisor , forever helpful, came up with the idea of having Esben do a performance at campus. At the time I didn’t dare to see it as anything else than wishful thinking but we started to work on it and Esben happened to be very supportive of the idea. In the end, everything came together on the 18th of May.

Being at school on the day of the event, I watched the performance take place right where we usually walk around, drinking coffee and complaining about exams. Like entering another dimension in which business schools are places of liberation, we watched a sequence of movements unfold, wanting to join in but not daring to do so. What happened that day? I’m not sure. Just like we couldn’t really describe the feeling we got from BUTTERFLY!, I feel limited in describing this performance, taking place on the 18th of May. All I know is that my final semester at CBS began and ended with the creative universe of Esben Weile Kjaer:

It was a spring full of possibilities!

CBS is Turing 10 years!! 🎈

Join us on the 18th of May for a day full of celebrations and art - more info will follow soon…

CBS Art is the student organization for everyone interested in art and everything it entails.

Founded in 2013 by Christoffer Faurschou, the purpose was to spread the interest in art among the students and employees at Copenhagen Business School and bring out the creative side of our university by building bridges between business and art.

CBS Art does so by having art talks, inviting inspirational people from the art world to talk at CBS, visiting exhibitions, and spreading exciting views on art. Our events often lead to great talks over a beer or a glass of wine.

Throughout our 10 years of existing, we have collaborated with many exiting people and organizations including:

🎈 Interview and temporary exhibition of the artist duo Bigert & Bergström’s CO2 Lock-Ins right outside of campus.
🎈 The creation of the Digital Art Space on campus: displaying a different artist’s video works every month.
🎈 Hosting an event at Bianca D'Alessandros Gallery with artist Louis Scherfig.
🎈 The acquisition and installation of Michael Kvium’s sculpture Social Pattern at campus.
🎈 Hosting an Art Salon with CBS Art’s collaborator Station, celebrating the artworks hung there, with talks by chairman of Ny Carlsbergfondet Christine Buhl and the artist group YEARS.
🎈 Hosting a gallery visit together with the gallery Brigade and moderating a conversation with Karen Becker about art collecting.

We also have many other cool projects on the way in the nearest future.

CBS Art believes that by integrating art and humanities in this academic context, we can provoke old and inspire new perspectives. Art can generate sensuous experiences, enhance our ability of critical thinking and convey a further understanding of ourselves and societal context.

CBS Art is happy to announce our upcoming collaboration with fellow CBS student, and artist Maja Völker, with the exhibition ‘Visualizing Science’ at Villa Kultur on April 29th.

Völker is currently studying entrepreneurship and biochemistry, an invigorating combination of fields for a business school. Her art aims at bringing scientific concepts to life in a more personal and accessible way by giving them a tangible form. Völker’s abstract paintings are bridging the gap between science and feelings, allowing individuals to truly grasp the importance of the work scientists do and the limitless opportunities that scientific discoveries hold for humanity.

“As a scientist, I am constantly in awe of the hidden knowledge and undiscovered pathways within nature. By decoding life at the molecular level, I believe we can overcome some of the biggest challenges facing our world and unlock new opportunities that are currently beyond our imagination. The beauty of nature lies in its ability to inspire new creations that can benefit all of us, simply by following its example.”

The exhibition is taking place in the old orangery in the Villa from 16.00-20.00 and will include an artist talk by Maja. Please follow the link in our bio for the Facebook event.

We look forward to seeing you April 29th!

On the occasion of Women's Day we want to highlight art pioneer Judy Chicago - the feminist we all need to know. Born in 1939 in Chicago, Judith Cohen chose to replace her father’s name with that of the city where she grew up, as a sign of rejection of the patriarchal system. Best known for her ICONIC feminist masterpiece, The Dinner Party (1974-1979), which celebrates women’s history through place settings designed for 39 important women from history.

Judy Chicago is known for challenging what she describes as the “mass terrorism” of toxic masculinity. What began for Chicago as a quest for gender equality has come to also embrace what she perceives as all victims of the tyranny of patriarchal control, including the planet itself.

Earlier in 2022 we had the pleasure to experience Judy Chicago’s feminist video work Woman and Smoke from the Atmospheres series at Copenhagen Contemporary’s Light & Space exhibition. A civilization-free choreography of painted female bodies shrouded in green, red and purple smoky colors in the California landscape.

Judy Chicago’s Atmospheres series is one of the most important landmarks in ecofeminist art. At the end of the 1960s, the artist explored both natural sites and urban spaces, working with performers whose bodies were covered in pain and who set off colorful flares conceived as metaphors for different emotional states. These gestures transform the landscape fleetingly, as a form of response to the more authoritarian and definitive actions of male artists. Through this series of works, which questions both the place of woman in art - here, the painted model is also a “painter” - and the way in which humans situate themselves in their environment. Judy Chicago links the deminist question to environmental issues, in resonance with other artists of this period, such as Agnes Dénes or Ana Mendieta.

Thank you all for stopping by, listening, and sharing your impressions today. You can experience the outdoor exhibition "Reflections at the foot of the sky" on the Rambla by Solbjerg Plads until 19 Sep, before it travels to Kongens Nytorv.

About the exhibition:
The series ”Reflections at the foot of the sky" are all taken by a single lake. Janne Klerk's photographs capture the gentleness, peace and calm as well as the drama, turbulence and chaos that poetically play out in the dance between sky and water. In a way, this can be seen as a metaphor for the reflections that constantly take place between people and their surroundings. The reflections are in perpetual motion, unpredictable and complex – just like the dynamic change at the base of our reality.

Tomorrow, starting at 3 pm, we invite you to an exciting conversation with photographer Janne Klerk, who is behind the outdoor exhibition “Reflections at the foot of the sky” currently on view by the Rambla by Solbjerg Plads.

The series ”Reflections at the foot of heaven" are all taken by a single lake. Klerk's photographs capture the gentleness, peace and calm as well as the drama, turbulence and chaos that poetically play out between the sky and water. In a way, this can be seen as a metaphor for the reflections that constantly take place between people and their surroundings. Reflections are in perpetual motion, unpredictable and complex – just like the dynamic change at the base of our reality.

A book was conceived as part of the project, where Janne Klerk collaborated with writer Gitte Broeng and astrophysicist Anja C. Andersen to reflect upon both measurable and non-measurable statements about the fascinating concept of reflections.

We hope that you come to listen and participate in a conversation about what a lake can teach us about the cosmos.

Our Story

WHAT CBS ART DO

On a regular basis CBS Art arranges Art Crawls and Art Talks; our artsy way to say that we visit exciting art exhibitions and invite inspirational people from the art world to talk at CBS. Our events often lead to great talks over a beer or a glass of wine.

Several long term initiatives are also a part of CBS Art’s activities. The CBS Digital Art Space was established by CBS Art, which around 67,000 people pass by every day. We have also installed multiple artworks permanently at CBS.

At the base of all activities is a interest in exploring art. Our goal is to interweave the spheres of art and business, by enhancing the importance of humanities and art as a valuable complement to a business context.
