With its charming, hip ambiance and a combination of relaxed and adventurous lifestyles, most visitors can barely resist the spontaneous temptation of extending their stay and just hang around the place for another while, and even move here permanently like we did. The famous long sandy beaches of Cabarete and the dreamy Sosúa bay are only a few minutes away. Puerto Plata international airport is around 20 minutes by car. Our name Escondrijo means hideaway, hideout or hiding place in Spanish. We chose this name because that is what our property truly offers – a place to relax away from it all, yet just a few minutes to everything. For example, you can enjoy your honeymoon or simply rest and unwind with free internet or even write that book you always wanted to. The possibilities are endless. For many, it offers a wonderful place to stay after a day of enjoying some of the many attractions this area has to offer. You will be away from the crowds in a very beautiful, secure and peaceful environment. If activity is required then you can enjoy a variety of gorgeous beaches that will satisfy the most demanding water enthusiast. Encuentro Beach is located a few minutes away and is considered one of the best surfing spots in the Caribbean. The next beach to the east is Kite Beach. Kite Beach is ranked as the best wind surfing spot in the world. Many other water based activities also exist. Diving, snorkeling, sailing and deep sea fishing are also very popular. But that’s not all; a wide range of eco-tours can keep the adventurer in you busy for days. Waterfall tours will immerse you into the Dominican wilderness that is largely undiscovered by most tourists. Mountain biking ranges from causal rides over flat stretches with spectacular views to extreme tracks for the not so faint of heart. Even world class golf can be found less than an hour away. After a day of seeing what this wonderful place has to offer, our brand new suites will be most refreshing. Our suites surround one half of our free form pool that is equipped with enough pool toys to keep both the young and young at heart entertained for hours. Comfortable loungers are available for those who would like to relax in the shade or work on their tan in the sun. We try to be as sensitive to the environment as we can. Our pool pump is solar powered and the water is kept sparkling clean with the same solar powered technology that is used by NASA on the space station. Even your hot water is heated by the sun! We also have a backup inverter system to keep your suite lit up 24 hours a day if the power ever goes out. You enter your retreat through a private poolside patio. The patio has a Caribbean theme with bamboo privacy screens and furniture. It is a wonderful place to relax over your favorite wine that is being kept cool by the terracotta wine cooler that we supply with each room. While sitting on the patio, you will be in full view of the pool and can listen to the coconut and palm trees rustle in the tropical evening breeze while watching the sun go down. From your patio you enter into the living room which has sufficient seating for visiting, relaxing while reading or watching TV. The living room couch folds down into a double bed for children or additional quests. Off the living room, you will find a fully equipped kitchen which provides all the amenities you need. You can host a full dinner party with serving for 4 people or simply keep all of your tropical treats fresh for flavorful snacks. Of the many appliances, the blender will allow you to make all of your favorite tropical drinks. It will feel just like home with all the modern amenities. The bedroom contains a comfortable pillow top queen size bed with fresh hotel quality sheets that will welcome you after a long day. This room is supplemented by two bedside tables, a closet for your luggage, a digital safe and windows to let in those refreshing tropical breezes. The modern bathroom contains a vanity with sink and overhead lights, toilet and shower. All of these amenities are tastefully surrounded by a variety of earthen tone local tiles on both the floor and walls. We understand that our quests want a worry free vacation without the stress associated with dealing with the small things. This is why we offer guests free airport shuttles (my husband David is the driver) to and from the Gregorio Luperón International Airport (POP) in Puerto Plata. In addition, a complementary trip to the grocery store will allow you to stock up on all your favorite things. We also believe in supporting the local community, on your arrival, I will greet you and give you information on the local area and discounts to the better restaurants and attractions that we have carefully chosen. The choice to rent a car is up to you. It is recommended, but it not necessary. We have both motorcycle and taxi drivers that are available to drive you to the beach or to get groceries. The local motorcycle drivers or motochonchos can transport you to downtown Cabarete or Sosua for about 50 pesos (about $1US). Thank you for reading about our resort and hope to see you soon!
