Hand Over is a design and build company, specialized in delivering environment-friendly and cost effective building solutions using earth construction techniques. Our main focus is on providing resilient, affordable and sustainable housing solutions and community buildings for unprivileged communities, by
empowering local community members, students and graduates. The main issues we are addressing

are:
Lack of resilient & humane housing units for low-income families. Lack of proper sustainable education & hands-on experience for engineering students. Lack of a real sustainable community development approach. Lack of adequate environmental design solutions for our climate conditions. Our vision is to create a flexible, replicable model that could be applied in upgrading and rehabilitation of informal settlements and unprivileged communities. We operate through a collaborative model. We understand that if we want to achieve a real and sustainable community development approach, we need to collaborate with several segments,
entities to reach this vision. Through our work, we collaborate with social enterprises, local NGOs,
universities, local community members and local municipalities. As mentioned earlier, our interventions mostly take place in unprivileged communities, informal settlements and neglected districts. The process that we undergo to implement any project is
as follows:
We select our area of intervention by networking and collaborating with local NGOs and local initiatives, once we are settled on the idea of the project, we prepare a curriculum of several subjects such as: team building, community work, sustainable techniques of construction
and Environmental design. Afterwards, we recruit participant of civil and architecture engineering students and graduates and we deliver the content of the curriculum through interactive sessions and workshops
that includes site visits to the area of intervention, community meetings. Throughout the workshop, the participants start identifying the issue form the local community and they start working together to find the best solution for it.

The Soheil Guest House in Aswan, Egypt, promotes a variety of sustainable practices. The guest house uses locally sourced materials, and is constructed using compressed earth bricks. This technique reduces the carbon footprint of the building and has excellent thermal mass.

This helps to reduce energy consumption and creates a comfortable living environment for guests. We are proud to have used this innovative building technique in the construction of the Soheil Guest House with the support of our partners ArkinNog , which not only showcases the beauty of the local area but also promotes sustainable building practices.

The Soheil guest house project focuses on four main design drivers: the rock formations, the hill, the green oasis, and the Nile. The layout and architectural forms of the guest house follow and coexist with the topographic edges of the site and its distinct rocks, creating a beautiful dialogue between nature and the project's intervention.

The program placement follows a hierarchy, with vertical and horizontal circulation creating a journey similar to the original topographic experience of
the land. This creates a unique and memorable experience for guests. The project supports eco-tourism, and a variety of sustainable solutions have been introduced to create an environmentally friendly space that connects users to nature.

The design process started at one of the design studios at the GUC, the idea was to involve the students in the design phase and allow them all to come up with different proposals. We received more than eight different proposals and we had to choose one proposal to move forward with. Afterwards our team worked on the design development and started enhancing the proposal and implementing some changes based on the site circumstances and the client’s needs.

Project’s team:
Design concept team: Wasila Ayman, Esraa Hosny, Zeina Hisham
Design development, schematic and construction package: Nada Ghali, Nermeen Nasser, Farida ElSoueni, Lana Gad
Construction team: Ahmed Abdel Gawad, Ahmed Tantawy
CEB providers: ArKinNog
Interior design: Nada Ghaly
Landscape design: Ahmed Saaffan

We are excited to introduce one of our latest projects - Soheil Guest
House - in the beautiful location of Aswan, Egypt! The guest house is inspired
by the stunning natural features of the context. The architectural language
was taken from the original vernacular Nubian architecture, to create a
holistic, regional, and sustainable space.

The architectural forms are integrated within the site's topography, creating a
direct relationship within the context, creating a unique and memorable
experience for guests. The guest house consists of 6 rooms, a reception area, a
kitchen, and a restaurant, where guests can enjoy breathtaking views of the
Nile while experiencing the rich culture of Aswan.
