During the visit, SFCL hosted a lecture entitled “Think BIM/CIM: A way to City Information Modelling” by Prof. Dr. Waleed Nassar, "founder of the first BIM consultant & service center in Egypt/KSA which took place on Sunday, February 11, 2024. In addition, Eng. Raneem Anwer gave a brief introductory session about the SFCL lab activities, research approaches and achievements as well as the ongoing projects.

to Prof. Dr. Nassar for the very informative presentation
to our host Smart & future cities laboratory for sustainable urban solution for the warm welcome
and last but not least to Eng. Raneem Anwar and Prof. Dr. Samah El-Khateeb for the hospitality and the introductory event about SFCL.

EZBET and KAIROS City LAB, in association with the Smart & future cities laboratory for sustainable urban solution at Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University, organised a one-week program for a delegation of architects and urban planners from Stuttgart in Egypt. Prof. Dr. Mohamed El Fayoumi , unit head of Landscape Architecture Program and assistant vice dean welcomed the delegation at the Faculty of Engineering.

An adding value to our summer school this year to mention is that MIU - Misr International University in Cairo joined us with a group of students accompanied by academic staff and assistant lecturer. The students, alongside the other participants, were distributed in different working teams among the three work-stations: the cave, the oven, and the wood workshop. Indeed, a fruitful and rich exchange of knowledge, experiences, and learnt lessons took place during the entire processes of thinking, developing ideas, and for sure during the hard construction work. Worth to mention also that MIU supported financially its participants in addition to partial funding of the workshop materials.
The summer school is a site-oriented training and summer school Organised by EZBET e.V. in collaboration with Kairos City Lab at the Faculty of Engineering-Ain Shams University and hosted by Dar Eid in Al Tarfa, St Catherine, Sinai. The participation of Misr International University MIU has enrich the entire work and the final results of the workshop!

+++A great opportunity to extend our collaborative experience, as well as place
participatory and place-making projects within Stuttgart into context+++

We are place-making in an urban space, where new cultural and sporting activities are to revitalise a brown-field site in Stuttgart-Vaihingen. The uses were decided upon based on a community participatory process that lasted almost two years and was designed and conducted by the "planbar-hochdrei" planning office in cooperation with the city of Stuttgart. The project is part of the IBA projects and will be presented at the IBA festival in 2025 and 2027. The area is currently being planned and designed by Circuluem, which is a concept of Kreativhaltig e.G. and the Stuttgarter Jugendhaus Gesellschaft (stjg) GmbH.

The project is a collaboration between Ezbet Project and Paari Design Studio with the hosting entity Kreativhaltig e.G. Circuleum

Our project aims to create a new use for the outdoor space by installing an earthen oven in open air. The “cob” oven is intended as a means of introducing environmentally friendly materials (earthen) into the space, creating new uses of the area, and a new environmental and microclimatic atmosphere. This project is for temporary use, and as such, the stove is designed to be mobile rather than permanent/stationery. It is also designed to be simple for use and create an opportunity for the community to come together.

Egyptian and German Participants work hand-in-hand with the local labors from the community on the construction sites. Many thanks to all who contributed and helped during the entire week starting from Mohamed Eid (the camp's executive director), Toqa Taher (Dar Manager), to everyone from the locals: Am Salem, Mosa Abo Farag, Sheikh Gameel Attia, Shaher Ali, Mohamed Abo Matar, Yousef Eid, Ramadan Mohamed, Abdel Rahmen Ragab, Hassan Abo Matar, Ahmed Abo Matar, Ahmed Salem, Yunus Eid, Mohamed Khodeir, and Om Yunus, From the younger generations were Mohamed Salem, Zeyad Mohamed, Zaid Mohamed, Noura Eid, and Ragab Eid* involved. They played an essential role in making this work and its process in the best possible way. The whole process of the summer school was characterized by mutual processes of learning.

With great pleasure we announce our successful summer school "Connect..., Create..., and Built with Nature eid, St. Catherine Sinai".

The summer school focuses on connecting and building with various local eco-friendly materials and natural resources (clay and wood), as well as integrating art and traditional handicrafts into the built environment. Participants take turns working in teams at three work stations, each with one of the three main materials and technical focus. A parallel Art workshop has been offered to familiarize participants with local arts and handmade works by Sinai Bedouin women.

The main objective is to provide scientific, academic and technical knowledge, in addition to the understanding of integrated sustainability in a cultural setting. It also aims to create a platform for younger generations to gain direct experience with the materials in collaboration with local workers and, most importantly, to practice teamwork. Besides the practical technical details, many soft skills are gained (e.g. communication skills (verbal and non-verbal), cultural exchange with local communities, ... )

With the belief that Egyptian know-how and experience should not end at national borders. And following the successful COP27 conference in Egypt last year, Egyptian experts are today sharing their experience in building with environmentally friendly construction techniques at the Urban Future Conference UFC23 in Stuttgart, Germany, and presenting clay as an alternative building material to other conventional materials such as cement.

أثناء ورشة الأطفال و بمشاركة مدرسين الحضانة ، اتبادلنا الخبرات واستفدنا من بعض, و تفاعل الأطفال وانبساطهم بكل رحلة فى تجارب المواد كان كبير و استمتعوا واستمعنا معاهم 🥰🥰.

الأطفال هم اللى هايبنوا مستقبل الأرض ✌️ ,علشان كده كان اهتمامنا بعمل ورشة لمشاركتهم فى تخطيط حضانتهم الجديده فى قرية موسى ميزار على بحيرة قارون فى الفيوم .

ودى جزء من تحضيرات الأنشطة لتعليمهم كيفية البناء بالطين باسلوب ممتع و سهل ليهم علشان يزود احساسهم بالمواد الطبيعيه و الصديقة للبيئة .

مابين الجبال بجوار الوادى المقدس .. بنحاول الحفاظ على البناء من الطبيعه عن طريق بناء غرفة فى كهف بمساعدة خبراءنا من جامعة شتوتجرت: دكتور منال الشحات , و من جامعة ليزبون: باولو و ألينا ,وكمان السكان المحليين من بدو سيناء.
و فى نهاية رحلة المدرسة الصيفية شكر خاص لكل من المشتركين و لشركاءنا BENAA & CAS Studio اننبسطتنا و اتعلمنا كتير مع بعض 😇🤝

Between the mountains near to the holy land, we have tried to keep the earth building from the nature by building a room in a cave , with the helping of our expertise from Stuttgart University Dr Manal elshahat and from Libson University, Paulo and Elina (from Cas Studio). In the end of the international summer school journey, thanks to the participants and our partners , we have learnt and enjoyed a lot together 😍👏
