My wife and I have owned property in Benalmadena since 2003, & have been holidaying in this part of the Andalusian coast for many years. In late 2016 we decided that we wanted a more substantial property that offered peace and tranquillity in the Spanish hills, but was still close to a busy town, and importantly gave us the scope chance to put our stamp on it.
We immediately set about knocking down walls downstairs to create a light, bright and open living space, and installed a new ground floor terrace area. We re-decorated the whole house, sourced contemporary furniture from the UK, Scandinavia & Italy, added an indoor/outdoor sound system, and enhanced the storeroom behind the pool house. Our housekeepers are an amazing couple who have looked after the property since it was built in 2005 - Reme and her team clean the villas, and Diego looks after the maintenance side of things all year round, as well as ensuring that the 2 acres of mature landscaped gardens with 100’s of trees, exotic flowers and plants stays in fantastic condition.
We finally completed all of the renovation work on La Huerta Vieja's sister property, La Casita (Property ID # 8743809 - https://www.homeaway.co.uk/p8743809), in May ‘19 - and we now have 2 completely separate fenced-off properties that can be rented out independently or as 1 large property for very large groups of up to 18 people. La Casita was the original property that was the dwelling for the local farmers, and had not been touched for more than 50 years when we purchased the place. The renovation took more than a year & we feel that we have created a modern, luxury open-plan villa that appeals to a wide audience, and we personally think that the best addition is the stunning roof terrace with amazing panoramic views.
Both properties are less than 30 minutes drive from Malaga airport & the beach, and only 5 minutes from the nearest town, Alhaurin el Grande, and yet it feels like you're a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Whilst this is the ideal place to unwind and relax with friends and/or family, it's also been renovated to try and create the ultimate entertaining complex in the sun.
