On this unique full day Barcelona Spain Cruise Shore Excursion visit and explore the 2 largest, historical cities north of Barcelona - Girona, a medieval city with one of the best preserved Jewish Quarters in Europe and Figueras with its unique Dali Theater and Museum. Your shore excursion meeting point is just a 20-minute taxi ride from your Barcelona cruise ship pier where you will be greeted by
your excursion guide staff then you'll board the air-conditioned transport. Departing from Barcelona's city center, your onboard hostess will pass out guidebooks so you can plan your day during the approximately 90-minute drive to Girona. Upon arrival in Girona, your professional local cruise excursion guide will be waiting for you and will lead you on a 90-minute walking excursion of the city's old town. The historic center dates back more than 2000 years. The Forca Vella (city fortification) dates back to the Roman fortifications of 1 BC. You will visit the Girona Cathedral which is a mix of architectural styles. Construction began around 1060 AD, on the site of a former mosque, in the Romanesque style (the cloister and Charlemagne tower). Over the next 700 years, additions in Baroque and Gothic styles were made. Its interior includes the widest Gothic nave (72 feet) in the world. The Jewish Quarter or call, is a labyrinth of narrow streets, squares, and patios that look almost the same as they did in medieval times. Although much of its history disappeared with the expulsion of the Jews in 1492, it is still one of the best-preserved Jewish quarters in the world. After your walking excursion, you will have approximately 90 minutes to explore further and have lunch on your own. Your Barcelona Sightseeing shore excursion guide can assist you with restaurant suggestions if you wish. At the appointed time, you will rejoin your hostess and drive to the town of Figueres, approximately 60 minutes away and the birthplace of artist Salvador Dali. You will be given free time to explore the museum that he built. Displays include some of his first artistic experiments as well as the surreal creations from his later years. The art ranges from paintings to whole rooms, including the Rainy Taxi, the Sala Mae West and Dalis crypt where he and his wife are buried. Your Barcelona Girona, Figueres and Salvador Dali Excursion also includes entrance to the Joies Dali, a separate two-floor exhibit that houses a jewelry collection he designed. You will then meet your transportation for the two-hour drive back to Barcelona, arriving in the city center in the evening. From here, you may choose to return to your cruise ship directly, at your own expense, or explore and return at your leisure if time allows. Taxis are readily available
Please note: Although your on-board transportation hostess is not a trained Barcelona cruise excursion guide, they will be able to assist with suggestions on sightseeing, shopping and dining in both Girona and Figueres. The guidebook you will receive will also include discounts at many local establishments.
