La Cala de Mijas is the only fishing village left between Fuengirola and Marbella on the Costa Del Sol. Malaga airport is 30 minutes away by road and it is also possible to travel by train and bus. The climate is very mild and sunny with 320 days of sunshine a year - even in winter it is usually warm and sunny enough to eat outside. The village of La Cala and surrounding area is very suitable for

family holidays with a child-friendly blue flag beach and many activities during the day and evening. Local area amusements include aqua-park and zoo, while in the summer there is an open air cinema on the beach. English language cinemas are located about ten minutes away. There are several excellent restaurants serving every type of cuisine, including the famous chiringuitos, small restaurants on the beach specializing in fresh fish. There is a choice of traditional Spanish bars or others broadcasting sporting events or hosting live acts. There are 30 golf courses within 25km of La Cala and several within the immediate area. A Spanish market takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Other nearby activities includes horse riding, water sports such as wind surfing, scuba diving and snorkeling. There is a large Aqua Park about 10 min drive and a Bio Park in Fuengirola (20 mins away). Please tag your instagram photos

Did you know that the average home has some 300 000 items?

I do, because about 6 years ago when we acquired Casa Froiland, I spent the better part of a year curating all these treasures. We were secretly hoping the new owners would take over the entire lot, but they have been curating their own items, so we are now posed with challenge of dispersing the 300 000 items.

If you know anyone who might be interested in some, or all of the contents of a well furnished 3 bedroom townhouse, please help us spread the word.

After our vacation we are turning over the keys to the lovely new owners. Thanks to guests and friends for supporting our little Spanish project.

Next project will be further north but still very Mediterranean ❤️ Vive la France 🇫🇷

Extenuating circumstances policy and the coronavirus (COVID-19) | Airbnb Help Center

The Spanish Government has ordered the temporary suspension of all tourist accommodations in Spain to enable the contention of the pandemic caused by coronavirus. We understand that these are challenging times and need extraordinary measures. As always, the health of our community of hosts and guests is our first priority which is why we want to inform you of these new measures proactively.

The Order is effective as of March 19th and will last as long as the state of alarm is maintained.

All bookings at Casa Froiland can be cancelled without penalties as a consequence of this. We look forward to welcoming guests again when travel is safe.

Christmas music and light show in Malaga, every night during advent until the three kings procession on the 5th of January, wasn’t without opposition, the shop keepers protested the shows during opening hours and the residents protested the shows after, but we thought it was fun.

The temperature tomorrow is set to be around 18° with a slight chance of rain, and the same on Friday, which is procession day for La Cala around 9pm. We achieved Superhost again for this quarter and our wonderful guests say they love Casa Froiland because it has everything they need (and a bit more). We take pride in keeping a well-equiped house and strive to keep everything in tip top shape, so you can just kick back and relax. Forget your book? Got plenty. Need to catch up on your netflix? Our appleTV will help with that. Game night? Got you covered from Monopoly to backgammon. Should have brought a beach hat? We probably have one that will suit your lovely face. Hen parties? Golf guys? Three generations? We have hosted them all and they love the location - close to beach, restaurants and courses in lovely La Cala de Mijas.

In 2018 we had 47 % occupancy, so there is still room for more guests, but it looks like people are planning ahead this year and bookings for 2019 are coming in already, so be quick and check if your dates are still available.

Looking forward to our fourth year making summer holidays more cool and calm.

Craft beer festival in Benalmádena this weekend promises to be a fun event for aficionados.

Arid garden patch

Early spring in Andalucia and we are in the middle of a drought. The city fire department has banned opened fires and asked for extreme caution as our normally green and lush parks and public spaces are a bit dry and dusty. The city has asked us to conserve water and we do.

When we planted our little garden patch we picked plants that should be fine on their own and it seems to be thriving, oleanders, banana palm and this pink flowering shrub are all very hardy and growing like weeds all without additional water.

We actually need a gardener. ;-)

Slow down and let the sheep pass

A day trip to the countryside can help you gain a little perspective and slow down. We encountered these newly shorn sheep on the road to the Chinchilla Winery outside of Ronda. The winery was closed but the drive into the mountains was worth it.

Today we are enjoying the Ferias y Fiestas de Fuengirola. The parade reminded me a bit of the puritanical Easter processions but the dancing 💃🏻 is pure passion. I ❤️ espania.
