Our Company wishes everyone a !
Orthodox Easter is the principal festival of the Orthodox Church. It is the most significant religious holiday for the world's roughly 300 million Orthodox Christians.
In the bible, it is the day when Mary Magdalene found an empty tomb in the cave in which Jesus had been placed following his death by crucifixion the Friday before.
It signifies the end of the 40 days of Lent, meaning Christians who gave up something during Lent to signify Jesus' time in the wilderness, can indulge themselves again.

Simien National Park, in northern Ethiopia is a spectacular landscape, where massive erosion over millions of years has created jagged mountain peaks, deep valleys and sharp precipices dropping some 1,500 m. The park is of global significance for biodiversity conservation because it is home to globally threatened species, including the iconic Walia ibex, a wild mountain goat found nowhere else in the world, the Gelada baboon and the Ethiopian wolf.

Visiting Lake Tana Monasteries Bahir Dar!
The islands and peninsulas of the lake host 19 monasteries and more than 35 churches, most of which were built during the 14th century, though some are possibly as old as the 3rd century. These are old repositories of the invaluable historical heritages collected from different corners of the country and skeletal remains of the medieval Ethiopian Emperors.

Ethiopian Christmas will be celebrating on January 7 and it's the most popular and colourful in Lalibela.
On Christmas Eve, or the gahad of Christmas, Ethiopians attend overnight mass, usually starting around 6pm and finishing at 3am.

Within the often circular churches, people line up around the sides of the church and begin a long looping procession around the circumference of the church, sound-tracked by a heavenly choir and a range of traditional instruments such as a sistrum, a tambourine shaped drum.

At this point the congregation are given candles, and follow the priest around the church as he bestows blessings for the year upon those he passes.

Once they have passed by twice, the congregation are divided by gender and gather round the centre circle, where the priest conducts mass.

It's an excellent and convenient time to visit the Danakil Depression.
Danakil Depression formed from the continental drift of the African and Asian tectonic plates. As the plates drifted apart at a rate of 1-2 cm per year, they leave behind a geological depression, known as the Danakil Depression (or Afar Depression).

The Danakil Depression sits at the triple junction between three tectonic plates.

The Afar Depression spans Djibouti, Eritrea, and the Afar region of Ethiopia. The Northern part of this depression is the Danakil Depression, which sits more than 100m below sea level and contains some of the world’s most extraterrestrial landscapes.

Beyond its fascinating geology, the Danakil holds the keys to some of biology’s most profound questions. In 1974, researchers found the remains of ‘Lucy’ in the Danakil Depression, an early ancestor of modern humans dating back 3.2 million years (now on display at the National Museum in Addis Ababa). The acidic springs of the Dallol Crater have attracted scientists in the search for extremophile microbes as they seek to understand the origins of life on Earth, as well as the possibilities for early-stage life on Mars.

For your information, the Orthodox church is one of the oldest churches in the world, so with this comes a set of very detailed and highly conservative traditional customs. At each Orthodox festivity in Ethiopia, you can feel the atmosphere changing because many people dress up in their white robes, and men, women, and children head to the nearest church to attend mass.

Konso Cultural Landscape is a 55km2 arid property of stone walled terraces and fortified settlements in the Konso highlands of Ethiopia. It constitutes a spectacular example of a living cultural tradition stretching back 21 generations (more than 400 years) adapted to its dry hostile environment. The landscape demonstrates the shared values, social cohesion and engineering knowledge of its communities. The site also features anthropomorphic wooden statues - grouped to represent respected members of their communities and particularly heroic events - which are an exceptional living testimony to funerary traditions that are on the verge of disappearing. Stone steles in the towns express a complex system of marking the passing of generations of leaders.
