So today we finally got around to putting up our new 3 star classification sign ( wanted to wait till the spring and the wall had been repainted ) We are very proud of this achievement it’s taken lots of work 😀

Just had a fantastic lunch at La table de Chenaud a great little bistro only 15 mins from La Tannerie .. 23€ for a 3 course lunch all freshly cooked to order 😀

A fantastic day in St Emilion, we even managed to sit outside and eat ! Here is one of my happy places whatever time of year it’s always a joy to visit … in the summer we start the visit off with a glass of crémant in the Cloisters and then lunch in the square … it’s only 50 mins from La Tannerie and the drive through the vines is part of the fun

A fantastic day yesterday at Blaye only 50 mins from here … weds morning is market morning so a walk around that then a lovely lunch at the marine restaurant followed by a walk around the citadel dodging the showers .. the citadel is great to take children to , free entry loads of space to run around and coffee shops ice cream parlours and crêperies !

The mimosa is out ! Today we sat outside in 18 degrees this afternoon and enjoyed our first beer this year sitting out , the grue ( cranes ) were flying overhead and making such a fantastic noise ! Spring is coming to La Tannerie !
Paint brushes will be out next week to get everything ready for the summer !
We still have some availability for July and August and lots of availability June and Sept which are fantastic months to come and stay as it’s beautiful weather then also !

Spring is coming ! The mimosas is in bud and the Kingfishers are enjoying the nuts !

We are warm and toasty inside with the fire on after pruning the wisteria and starting to tidy !

We hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year ! Looking forward to welcoming some of you here to La Tannerie this summer.

We are taking bookings now for summer 2024 and dates are starting to fill so contact us early if you want to book . We have kept our high season and mid season prices the same as 2023 as we know things can be a bit tight in this current climate .

Fabulous afternoon tea at stoney Oak family farm … only 20 minutes from La Tannerie.. all food and cakes homemade and lush ! Childrens play area with zip wire and plentiful farm animals to pet including my favourite donkeys .. lots of the animals are rescues so such a good cause

We had one of these in our garden last night , it landed next to our decking where we were having a glass of wine with friends . It’s called a hoopoe bird because it’s call is hoop hoop , I often hear them in the garden but never have been lucky enough to see one , sadly I wasn’t quick enough with my phone so this is someone else’s photo , hopefully he will be back or should I say hoopoefully 😄

Summer is just around the corner and La Tannerie has its summer flowers planted out and blooming ready for the season ahead , the swimming pool is warming up nicely and the grass just doesn’t stop growing at the moment!

We are very happy to announce that last week we were inspected by Charentes Tourisme for gite classification and that all three of our gites were awarded 3 stars each in the meubles de Tourisme category ( furnished holiday cottages )

We have been working towards this for the last two years since we bought La Tannerie and are very proud to of achieved this , all the hard work and painting has been worth it !

So after two years of late frosts spoiling the wisteria we finally have some flowers ! Wisteria is one of my favourite flowers and the canopy and screen this one provides is just lush ! Next guests here Saturday so just in time to enjoy it

Happy Easter to all our followers , the sun is shining here at La Tannerie and our Guests had an Easter egg hunt in the garden this morning , hope you all have a lovely day , I’m off to light the barbecue for our first barby of the year !

So after a very busy week , including tree surgeons , front doors returned , spring cleaning gites , boule court sorted we are happy to say that la tannerie is now guest ready ! Our first guests arrive tomorrow for easter ! 2023 season has arrived !

So the exterior of la tannerie has had a facelift ! The shutters have all been restored and repainted and today the front doors came back with the beautiful new woodpecker door knocker ! So pleased with the result and highly recommend MVL services if anyone needs shutters doing , they were fab ! So fab that we have called the woodpecker after Marco who did all the restoration !

Lovely day in Blaye today , eliz is over we had a day off painting and went out , Blaye market in the morning then found a great restaurant La Marina for a fab lunch then a walk around the citadel .. only an hour from La Tannerie highly recommend

Spring is on the way and this morning we went to Vertilliac brocante.. had a lovely
Wander in the sun and then a fab bacon and egg roll at La Calice ! Now back home and gardening !
Vertilliac brocante is year round on the 1st Sunday of the month and well worth a wander .. in the summer it’s huge and get busy so need to get up early and be there to catch the best buys !

Let the painting begin ! Lovely sunny afternoon here in the Charente so I’ve started the mammoth task of painting fences and walls outside and as the mower just back from its winter service ken has taken the top off the grass !spring is on the way ! Now to light the wood burner and watch the rugby 🏉

Busy week here at La Tannerie , it’s starting to feel a bit like spring is around the corner ! We still have cold nights and frosts but the afternoons are bright and sunny and starting to do outdoor jobs .. our shutters should be back soon which is very exciting and looking forward to posting a picture with them all restored and repainted !

More snow yesterday which is quite a rare occurrence in south Charente ! Badger not too impressed but he keeping warm and cosy on the back of the sofa ! Ken and I been chopping wood this morning to keep the fire supplied but keeping warm now in front of it for the afternoon with netflix ! Looking forward to some sunny weather and welcoming guests back to La Tannerie
