Espéraza is a small town on the way to Carcassonne, about 12km from Ginoles.

One of the old pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela passes this way, through the mountains and on into Spain. The church was built during the 13th century.

In the early 20th century, Espéraza was known for hat making. The town has a Hat Making Museum. Around 1815, the village experienced a considerable economic growth thanks to Bugarach hatters who settled there. First in 1830, then 1878, then Espéraza enjoyed a prosperous period in the headgear. The arrival of the railway at that time certainly encouraged this growth industry. By 1929, there were 3000 Espéraza workers and 14 factories which allowed the village to become the second largest in the world of felt hats (after Monza, Italy).

This charming well appointed three year old villa, located near the town of Ginoles, in the center of Aude, in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, which is also reputed to be the sunniest in France.
The villa comprises 3 double bedrooms and another bedroom with a bunk bed which in total sleeps up to 8 (VIP upstairs double bedroom with en suite facilities coming soon!), two open plan lounges, 2 bathrooms/showers, two kitchen/dining areas, several patio areas, tha main of which leads onto a large private swimming pool.

The villa itself is set within one acre of grounds, and provides magnificent mountain views all round. There is also a private small fruit orchard, containing apple, pear and cherry tree's from which you are more than welcome to help yourself. There is a large lawn area allowing for ball games and other fun activities.

Rennes-les-Bains or Les Banhs de Rènnas is a commune about 20km from Ginoles.

The origins of Rennes-les-Bains go back to Antiquity. Archaeological artifacts indicate that the spa was at one time popular with the Roman colony in Colonia Narbo Martius (Narbonne).

Bathers have enjoyed the natural hot spring waters for thousands of years - they are still used today as a cure for rheumatism and certain skin problems. Today, it is a modern thermal spa with the latest equipment.

The origins of Ginoles are definitely very old and certainly predate the Gallo-Roman era. There are references in ancient texts to Castrum Ginolis, and its thermal springs, in modern day Ginoles les Bains. The presence of these natural hot springs almost certainly attracted people to this region, which in turn brought agriculture.

Due to the sunny climate, since Roman times the cultivation of Olives was an important activity, and many retaining walls called 'terraces' were built on the mountainsides and are still visible especially when one is in the village.

Ginoles is also known for its orchards. In the nearby locality named “Prat Fa” it is said that once there was a “Fanum” there which is a small rural temple of antiquity.
