We have some promising fruit this year, unlike last year when nearly all of it was wiped out by frosts. We even have a couple of walnuts for the first time.

We have finished our latest stone wall, at the end of the old to***co barn and visible as you drive up to the property. We're very pleased with the way it turned out. It has made that area much neater.

Jan and I went up to the lake the other day, the Lac d'Esscourou just round the corner from Le Serpen. We couldn't believe how dried up it is. This is the view from the bridge at the top end of the lake. This area is normally all water.
Apparently, it's not the worst it's ever been. When the water levels are really low you can see an old bridge which used to cross the river before it was dammed, and we couldn't see that. Fingers crossed for a good lot of rain this winter.

Our project this winter was to decorate the downstairs guest bedroom in our house. We laid a new floor. Jan built lots of cupboards and I did a lot of painting. We're pleased with the way it turned out.

Our tourist board has produced a new guide for our local village, La Sauvetat du Dropt, with historic information and directions for the guided walk. Some lovely pictures.

In the run up to Christmas, Jan turned his hand to making wooden gifts: trinket boxes, pencil boxes, a sewing box, and a doll's house with a facade modelled on Le Serpen.

We have had the most amazing crop of peaches this year - the best ever. The poor tree was struggling under the weight of them. There are far too many for the two of us to eat before they become over ripe, but fortunately we have some family visitors next week. I'll make jam with whatever is left after that.

One of the privileges of living here is the wildlife we get to see. We have had a beautiful red kite hanging out for a while and Jan captured some good shots of it. There is also our resident buzzard and an adorable young deer who looks like she was posing for the photo.
