Fresh from Thailand Travel Mart Plus (TTM+) 2024 in the idyllic Khao Lak, Mark, our Senior Product Manager for South East Asia, has had an adventure to remember! ✈️

He kick-started this premier B2B travel event at the wonderful The Sarojin: "What an absolute treat this hotel is! The staff go above and beyond, giving it a real family feel and the beach is easily one of the best in Asia!" 🏖️

Even in early June, typically the rainy season, the weather was mostly sunny—proof that Khao Lak is definitely worth considering for Spring and early Summer. "Just an hour from Phuket, it's a growing, easy-to-explore area with local bars, restaurants, and amazing Thai food." 😋

During his trip, Mark took the opportunity to island hop around Phang Nga Bay, which is now easier than ever thanks to convenient speedboat services. He stayed at the new Anantara Koh Yao Yai Resort & Villas, describing it as an ideal family resort with stunning beach views.

Koh Lanta was a real highlight and remains relatively untouched, offering an authentic Thai beach escape. During his time at the Pimalai Resort and Spa he was particularly impressed by the beachfront seafood BBQ and the hillside ocean-view breakfasts. What an incredible trip, Mark! Rumour has it you’re planning to head back on holiday soon, too! 🌴✨

Last Thursday, Lusso hosted their annual agents' raceday and supplier workshop at Sandown Park, Esher. 🏇

Over 55 people enjoyed the day, which was led by our Sales Director, Gareth Hulmston. He was joined by our new National Sales Manager, Kevin Gaddes; Head of After Sales, Jac Murray; and from reservations, Amy Griffiths and Andy Dawson. We were also delighted to have Prue Rushmer, Lusso's sales representative, join us.

The morning began with a series of focused workshops in small groups, where attendees met with representatives from our valued suppliers: Fairmont Royal Pavilion Barbados, Mar-Bella Collection, Oberoi Hotels & Resorts, Travel Alberta, Hyatt Luxury Inclusive, Four Seasons Resorts Maldives, Kerzner - One & Only, All Inclusive by Marriott, Explorer Journeys, JW Marriott Mauritius Resort and Hidden Doorways Travel Collection.

A delicious lunch followed in the spacious Lusso box with a balcony overlooking the racecourse. The group networked and mingled throughout the afternoon, watching the races, with great excitement each time a winner was celebrated. 🏆

When travel industry professionals decide to holiday, you can bet they know how to pick the ideal spots! 😍 Our Senior Product Manager for the Caribbean, Mike, just returned from an idyllic trip to St. Vincent & The Grenadines and Antigua with his lovely wife, Alex.

“As Alex and I both work in travel, we tend to have busy holiday schedules as we thoroughly explore new places. So, it was a nice change of pace to return to somewhere we both know well and take time out.” 😮‍💨

Their adventure began at Young Island in St. Vincent & The Grenadines, a boutique property that never fails to impress. "Young Island was as charming as ever, and Bianca and her team really looked after us. It was such a shame to hear that, like a number of islands in the Caribbean, it had sustained some damage earlier this month from Hurricane Isaac, but we know they’ll be back, better than ever, in the coming weeks."

From there, they ventured to the luxurious Blue Waters Hotel Resort & Spa in Antigua. “It’s always a pleasure to visit Antigua, and Blue Waters was the perfect place to unwind, be that at the pool, beach, or just sipping cocktails watching the pelicans dive for fish. Other than a golf outing with an old friend, I stayed within the resort all week, while Alex didn’t get much further than the spa!”

Sri Lanka, an island renowned for its lush landscapes, abundant history, and vibrant culture, recently played host to our Senior Product Manager, Helen. Thanks to Shangri-La Hotels, her 7-night itinerary was nothing short of spectacular. 🇱🇰🌴

"Everything was incredible to be honest," Helen shared, but some highlights stood out to her. Among them was a traditional Kamatha dinner at Uga Ulagalla. "The dinner was unforgettable, and witnessing the amazing elephant conservation work they do there was truly inspiring." 🐘🌟

The next stop was Water Garden Sigiriya, where she marvelled at the views of Sigiriya Rock Fortress before an early morning climb to its summit. "The view from the top of Sigiriya Rock was absolutely breathtaking."🏞️

Exploring Galle Fort with a local guide added a rich historical layer to her trip, capped off perfectly with an arrack tasting at the Galle Fort Hotel. "The tour of Galle Fort was so enlightening, and the arrack tasting was a delightful end to the day," Helen noted. 🍹

Perhaps one of the most exhilarating moments was a scenic flight by amphibious plane, taking off from a lake near Kandy and landing near Yala National Park. The flight provided breathtaking views of the lush tea country, and the subsequent safari in Yala, where Helen saw many elephants, was simply magical. 🤩

We’re hugely proud to introduce you to Zoe Savage-Morton, our dedicated Responsible Tourism & Sustainability Manager.

Zoe has spent over 30 years in different aspects of the travel industry and is currently in her last year of a Masters in Responsible Tourism Management. She is the newly appointed Co-Chair of the AITO Sustainability Committee and is certified Carbon Literate.

Zoe joined the Lusso team just over a year ago to steer us on our path to becoming a more responsible, sustainable tour operator.

“My goal is to embed responsible tourism throughout all aspects of the company,” explains Zoe.

Senior Product Exec, Gary, recently returned from an exhilarating trip to Jasper National Park, and we couldn't wait to hear all about his Canadian adventure.

Over three nights, he delved into the heart of the park, experiencing everything from food tours to wildlife explorations and astronomical talks. ✨

Among the highlights, the Rockies Heli helicopter flight stood out as an incredible moment. "Flying over peaks and glaciers, landing in the backcountry, and hiking to a secluded waterfall was surreal," says Gary. The Icefields Parkway drive was equally mesmerising, with seven black bears sighted and views of the Columbia Icefield and Athabasca Falls stealing the show. 🚁🐾

Gary also emphasised the value of guided excursions: "All the tours were really great and well worth having guides who know what to look for." Whether it was the peace of an early canoe trip on Pyramid Lake or the stunning views from the peak of the Skytram, every experience was enhanced by expert guidance. 🚠

An unexpected highpoint was witnessing the Northern Lights, thanks to unusual solar activity. Although not something that is typical for this time of year, the vivid auroras lighting up the Jasper sky was an extraordinary sight he'll never forget.

Our Destination of the Month for June is irresistible Italy.

Our team have gained some wonderful first-hand knowledge of the country recently, with trips last month both to Venice (as posted about last week) and to the Amalfi Coast, Tuscany and Umbria.

This latest dive into la dolce vita was carried out by our Europe Product Manager, Helen Brown, our Reservations Manager, Sophie Wormald, and our Senior Travel Advisor, Clare Sheldrick.

The 10-day trip began amid the plunging cliffs and picturesque towns of the Amalfi Coast before taking in Capri, the often-overlooked but beautiful Tuscan coast, the rolling vineyards and hilltop towns of the Tuscan interior, the forested hills of underrated Umbria and the Renaissance marvels of fabulous Florence.

Highlights came too thick and fast to mention them all here, but standout moments included:

Earlier this month our Marketing Manager, Pete, was lucky enough to enjoy a two-night stay at Eliamos Villas Hotel & Spa in Kefalonia, Greece, accompanied by his wife and 18-month-old daughter.

“I loved this hotel and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to agents and their clients,” says Pete.

“It’s in a great location in the south of the island, about 20 minutes from both the airport and the capital, Argostoli, yet feels wonderfully secluded, perched on a steep hillside with breathtaking views of the Ionian Sea and Zakynthos in the distance.”

The only Relais & Châteaux property on the island, it’s an intimate, boutique affair with just 12 suites and villas, all with private pools cleverly positioned so as not to be overlooked.

“We stayed in an Amos Suite, which is ideal for couples or parents like us travelling with a toddler, though two- and three-bedroom villas are also available. In fact, for a hotel that exudes luxury at every turn, it was wonderfully relaxed and welcoming of families.”

“Staff went above and beyond to be sweet to our daughter. A cot, a high-chair and a well-stocked kitchenette made toddler management all the more manageable. And little things like being able to order room service from the full restaurant menu to enjoy on our terrace while our daughter was asleep meant we never felt we were missing out.”

Additional facilities include an emerald-tiled infinity pool that mirrors the Ionian, a cosy spa, an all-wood gym, an outdoor space for yoga and Pilates and complimentary e-bikes for exploring the local area.

Last month our Managing Director, James Weaver, together with our Senior Travel Advisor Hayley French and Claire Griffiths from Saranta Associates, took six lucky agents on a four-night fam trip to Istria in Croatia and Venice, Italy.

“We began with a two-night stay at Meneghetti Wine Hotel & Winery in Istria,” explains Hayley, “one of a select few Relais & Chateaux properties in Croatia, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves.”

“This was my first time in Croatia and I will definitely go back,” says James. “Istria is a beautiful region and Meneghetti Wine Estate was simply fabulous. The food and wine were exceptional and being such a short flight away, it’s great for a short break or to combine with Venice as we did.”

“Both P**a and Rovinj less than 30 minutes away,” continues Hayley. “The former is famous for its Roman amphitheatre, one of the largest and best preserved in Europe, while medieval Rovinj has a gorgeous little harbour that’s perfect for people watching.”

“A wonderful resort,” says Kimara Boyd from Howard Travel. “The room we stayed in was immaculate, it had so much space and a sense of being in a small village rather than a hotel … the staff were all extremely friendly … I would absolutely recommend it to our clients.”

Other highlights included lunch at the gorgeous Grand Park Hotel Rovinj, as featured on the BBC’s ‘Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby’, and truffle hunting with dogs on a family-run estate in the Istrian countryside, with lunch served after.

“Truffle hunting was such an amazing experience,” says Kimara. “Our host was so welcoming and friendly … you immediately knew you were in the presence of a family’s legacy.”

Next came Venice and a two-night stay at Ca’ di Dio. “The hotel is in a perfect location,” says James. “The rooms are beautifully appointed in a contemporary Venetian style and the internal courtyard is a great place to retreat to after a day of exploration.”

“Pulling up to the hotel entrance by water taxi was really special too,” says Hayley, “the kind of unique experience that only Venice offers.”

The group enjoyed lunch at JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa and a wonderful tour of the charming Castello District, a great option for returning clients who are already familiar with the city’s major sites. But the highlight for most was a delicious dinner at The Gritti Palace, whose waterfront restaurant overlooks the Grand Canal.

“The food was incredible and the waiting staff were fantastic,” says Kimara. Jeanne Radcliffe of Sovereign Travel is similarly enthusiastic: “Such a special property and to have dinner on the terrace was absolutely fabulous – an iconic experience.”
