For centuries, Maldivians have passed through generations one by one fishing methods to protect our ocean. In collaboration with the Maldives Ocean Alliance and Bodu Kanneli Masveringe Union (BKMU, the Yellowfin Tuna Fishers Union in the Maldives), we would like to invite you join a campaign to ask the government to fully consider the risks and downsides of re-opening the Maldives EEZ to longline fishing.

The conservation achievements of the Maldives are threatened by the lifting of the longline ban, which would de facto reopen the Maldives to shark fishing. The proposal allows for the landing of sharks and their sale on international markets.
