The Northern Lights Season is up and running and it promises to be an exceptional one with this phase of the Solar Cycle. If you are visiting us before next summer and are interested, we give some tips and advice about catching and photographing them in our Digital Guide.
We’ve already had a couple of good shows, here is one from last week behind the house, just a few minutes earlier I was taking pictures from the front of the Milky Way.

We all love clear skies, but at night in and around Bamburgh they are extra special. Gazing at the stars or catching the Northern Lights is incredible, here is a shot of the Milky Way over the house taken last week.

Up early, it’s the best and most peaceful part of the day with just the birds and the breeze for company ☺️👌

Bamburgh Blue.
5.25am in the blue hour 40 minutes before sunrise and a 30 second exposure. So peaceful, I love the patterns in the sand left at low tide and just the faint hint of the sun coming..

This appeared on my Google Homepage this morning. More recommendations for Bamburgh and north Northumberland.
If you know, you know, our Guests seem to and like what they get with us right on the Coast. There’s already very limited availability for Summer 2025 and we’ve got bookings already for 2026!

THE friendly locals of Northumberland all had the same response when I told them I was writing about their county as a UK holiday destination: “Just don’t be too nice, everyone will want to come.” …

Looking for something different to do on a wet day?
We had a trip last week to Ad Gefrin in Wooler. A beautifully laid out museum of Saxon Northumberland and a very interesting Distillery Tour. The Bistro is also excellent. It’s all housed in stunning buildings, a fun fact is that they were designed by the same architect that was used for Waterford 😃

Despite pretty iffy weather we’ve had a great week in Bamburgh as always. Here’s a picture of summer meadow flowers in the dunes under a forbidding clouds, which kind of sums it all up perfectly.. 🙂

We love a good walk along Bamburgh Beach, and what better way to take a break before turning round than a coffee and treat at the Bait at Bamburgh. Even better news that they’re open every day now until the end of August ☕️😎👌

You can’t go to the Farne Islands and not take a picture of Puffins, they are spellbinding little birds. Here’s our effort catching them on the wing 🪽🪽😃

Took advantage of a windless and calm day yesterday and for the first time got dropped off on Inner Farne and what a fantastic experience it was, just incredible how close you can get to all the birds. Everyone rightly raves about the Puffin colony, but here I’ll share some pictures of a less common member of the Auk Family, the Razorbill.

We weren’t in Northumberland for the incredible Northern Lights Show on Friday night, although we did alert our Guests that it would be a great opportunity to see them.
