Turbo Nature!

Not only do the wild flowers love it here, but also it seems, Blackcurrants!

We have inherited an amazing, huge blackcurrant bush which is delivering ready to eat berries. They are so delicious I can substitute them for blueberries, raw and unsweetened. Lucky guests might find some in their welcome hampers over the next few weeks:)

Our senior dog took it upon herself to represent our doggie family today. She has quite strong views on wildlife conservation, National Parks and sewage. She takes a more relaxed view on migration, and would like her passport to be reinstated

HAPPY DEVON DAY!

Yes, it’s Devon’s special day today!

It coincides with St Petroc’s Day, which celebrates the patron saint of Devon and Cornwall.

Today we celebrate everything Devon🎉🎉🎉

St Petroc was born around 468AD in South Wales, but for a man of the times he got around, studying in Ireland, making a pilgrimage to Rome and finally settling in the South West of England where he founded many churches. He first settled in Padstow and then travelled to North West Devon where we are. At the time Devon and Cornwall formed the kingdom of Dumnonia.

Fun Fact: St Petroc is often pictured with a wolf that he is rumoured to have tamed whilst on a pilgrimage! So maybe St Petroc was an example of an early, reward-based ‘dog’ trainer😉

Come and join George for a cream tea on us when you visit us

We still have a few dates free this summer and can be flexible on dates..
10th-14th June
24th-27th June
And a few dates in August
(July fully booked)

Message me for more info and celebrate Devon Day!

New Walks

One thing I love about this place is the variety of lovely walks. Today I walked down to the disused railway line below Bratton Fleming through the woods. Here are the dogs enjoying a paddle before walking back up to the village..

Lovely Lulu part 2

Last night we gave little Lulu a confidence building session in the secure dog field. I took our old lady, Maddie, along to boost her bravery and we had a lovely time

With patience I think this little dog would love hoopers or agility. She is very quick, but needs to be certain that everything is safe, so less is definitely more in her case.

This little video was taken over 50 minutes, so each little challenge was broken up with some walking and mooching. By the end she was mentally tired and ready for her basket💤

Maddie visits Lynton Cinema!
As part of her 16th year Maddie has decided to it’s time to explore new experiences- this is her first cinema visit. Dogs are welcome in this homely cinema and she was soon flat out asleep. If you find yourself near Lynton it is well worth a visit, personal, friendly and good value. It is also a case of ‘use it or lose it’ !!
So, what did she go to see?? The Polish Explorer and the Nettle Dress - quirky little movies. Well to be honest I think her demeanour says it all, she would rather see The Fall Guy I reckon😂. Afterwards a delicious ice cream in the sunshine at one of Lynton’s many cafes

Exmoor Night Skies! Last minute availability for this weekend - our cottage is ready and waiting to welcome anyone interested in astrophotography. Apparently this weekend is looking encouraging for more aurora spotting. If I can manage to capture the sky on my phone with no tripod I am sure that anyone else can! I took the starry photos this evening and the aurora photos on Sunday. We are so lucky to have very little light pollution here

Anyone for Forest Bathing?

This is the Japanese practice of shinrin yoku.

The art of breathing deeply and relaxing in nature is also a fundamental part of Forest School (I am a trained Forest School Leader). Even very young children can experience calm mindfulness in a natural environment. The sound of the gentle babbling of water, birdsong, the breeze in the trees and being in unspoilt nature can help us to reconnect with ourselves, become grounded and to truly relax.

Here at Kipscombe we have the prefect place to practice this. Our very own wood and a gently flowing stream. Guests can either enjoy this special space on their own, or can have a complementary guided session with me🌲🌳🏞️

Holdstone Down. Great walk near Combe Martin with a lot of history! This place narrowly missed becoming a Victorian housing estate and is famous for spaceships and extra terrestrial forces. UFO spotters gather on the summit of this ‘holy mountain’ and tell tales that the pebbles have been placed there by aliens. Whatever you believe, it’s a lovely place for a walk. Moorland meeting views of the sea😀

Quite a few people have been asking about the layout of the cottage in relation to the parking and orchard/paddock, so I thought I would share some views..
1. Side on view of cottage showing parking and steps up to the private courtyard garden and conservatory entrance
2. Standing in the same spot, view of gate to orchard which guests have use of
3. View from gate up the orchard
4. View from top of orchard with cottage in the distance
Guests can also wander down through the wood to our stream for a paddle and use our manège with fun agility in.
The secure 2 acre dog field is just across the track at the top of the orchard.

This time a beautiful cliff-top circular walk at Baggy Point. The sun shone and Spring was truly in the air; made me think about ice cream and how nice the sea looked! I can’t believe all this beauty is on our doorstep
